Long read but very interesting. This could haunt Arum or HBO. One of them will have to eat it in the end. Everyone hates arum but you got to like the guy if your a boxing fan. The man got balls. Arum seems to be breaking bridges with HBO. If this PPV flops, he will be on the outs with HBO. With limited places to go. He will have to do his usual low grade ppv. But the move could bring boxing figure to prime time. Which would get HBO to step it up.
I only see one bad thing about this. With bob fronting showtime. I see HBO giving goldenboy promotion another deal. Hope they ditch that and just pay for the best fight promoters can give them.

If that were true, CBS would not have spent all that money trying to make Kimbo Slice into a star.

Kimbo actually was somewhat mild-mannered in the media, though. I can't remember any kind of vulgar outbursts from him while he was fighting for Elite XC, certainly nothing like that Tyson quote.

Do HBO own all of the footage to Pacquiao's recent fights?

That could cause a problem when it comes too promoting him.

I'm pretty sure HBO only retains rights to their commentary and graphics. So if you see highlights of previous Pacquaio fights on CBS or Showtime, they likely will include audio clips from Top Rank's international broadcasts, which have different commentators like Barry Tompkins and Rich Marotta.

CBS and Showtime are owned by the same media conglomerate. However, they are SEPARATE companies. They have their own budget, revenue, staff and to a good degree follow different rules (on-air- free TV vs paid cable service). For example, Showtime can air R-rated programming pretty much anytime while CBS can only do so (even after editing) during late hours.

CBS does not automatically have access to Showtime. Deals must be done for "cross-promotions".

HBO as a company has a wider viewer access than Showtime. Yes CBS has more than HBO, but Showtime is NOT CBS.

CBS was part of the deal in this one, so Pac would get to enjoy the advantages the network can offer

The question was how does Showtime do not have the media power of HBO when it has CBS as owner/partner/etc.

My point was while being owned by the same conglomerate they are separate entities that have their own staff, budget, viewers and in many cases separate laws that govern them.

The Pac-Mosley deal is an exception to the daily business.

Me too. I still hope it works out that we get to see more boxing on TV.
