All I want to know, is what does how Cotto did against former Floyd opponents (who were even worse by the time they fought Cotto!), have to do with how Cotto will do against FLOYD?

How can you say just getting a knockout is automatically more impressive than a UD? Shouldn't the real measure be how EASY it was for the fighter? Not whether he scored a knockout or not?

Why do people call him 'Mayrunner' anyway??

I understand this is just a boxing discussion forum, and not a forum specifically for boxers, trainers, etc etc., but do the people here really know so little about boxing that they don't know the difference between footwork and running?

Though it seems like amongst boxing fans that kind of mental ******ation is common! I was looking on Youtube.com and I swear I saw someone complain about Mayweather's performance in the Corrales fight. What did he do wrong? "All he did was run all night?" How did he knock Corrales out then? "Well Corrales was so weak from making weight and having to run around to chase Floyd that it tired him out." Oh I see. "Corrales won that fight, he was the aggressor, Mayweather just ran away from him all night and got a lucky punch off to knock him down while he was of balance." Don't you mean five lucky punches?

And of course thats about when it degenerates into "U fukn Gayweather/Mayrunner dick sucker ***it bich!"

    1. Obviously, because of styles, Mayweather isn't going to KO anyone early. It's not because Cotto's a better fighter, it's because of his style.

    2. Cotto fought them after Mayweather had already beaten them.

    3. Common oponents mean nothing:

Ali had losses and competitive fights against Norton and Frazier. Foreman demolished Norton and Frazier. Did Foreman also demolish Ali? No.

Castillo was KTFO by Hatton. Mayweather had a close first fight, and according to many he arguably lost to Castillo. However, Mayweather knocked Hatton out.

exactly mayweather was hit but far form hurt please

i love how cotto used to be a overated protected fool in 2005 now for some reason 2006 made him this great fighter that none can beat please.
judah smacked him up before he tired out...

ricardo torres made him drop like a sack of potatoes which is now surprisingly is now seen as a modern day classic :think

then demarcus corley made him do crazy breackdance manuvas

also i like the excuse that people put on that he was wieght drained for the fights at light welter...please man just becuase you way low doesnt mean your drained.

now you can be dropped, you can be hurt but when you cna get hurt frequently then thats bad news...bad chin i dont think so bad defence i think is the point he does his bunny ear impressions hoping that that will protect him then once he is checked he does the same again.

i thikn he is a good fighter but he is so brought up as this gifted boxer puncher who is methodic and has a grea tleft hook....thats all he has is a left hook a good one at that but only a left hook.

he will be stopped by somone im sure of it

just cause Cotto beats em quicker doesn't mean its easier. Sometimes a fighter is better but doesn't really gun for the KO cause he is more defensive. This is the case with PBF

    Ok Orishman,..

Fact...this has nothing to do w/a Fight between the two!:nono

Here's some things to think about,.....

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has defeated 4 Champions while they were in reign

Cotto has won 2 vacant titles, and has never even fought a Champion while in reign!

Mayweather has scaled 5 weightclasses being Lineal in 3 of them!

Cotto has won a vacant WBO title at 140lbs, and a vacant WBA title at 147lbs. Again key word being VACANT!

Almost 1/2 if not 1/2 of Mayweathers fights have been Championship fights so Orish never bring up the fact that Cotto has fought those guys earlier in his career or that it apeared that he did better because fact is while he's fighting Mayweather left overs to get a name Mayweather was still fighting World Champions, or Championship fights!

It's nonesense to even make this a thread, because what's your point! Do you have a follow up to this thread, or a reason for this?:huh

    I'd love to know!!

Biggame though I agree with the point you're trying to make, if you're going to distinguish between 'title' and 'championship' fights, you can't say almost half of Floyd's fights have been championship fights, as they were title fights. Though he still had a LOT of championship fight!

I see what you're trying to say, but it's fact that Floyd won his 1st title at in his 18th fight against the Ring Magazine Champion thus making him a Champion making any defense a Championship bout! He moved up to 135lbs and Fought the Champion there and then defended it as the Champion, at 140lbs he won a title, at 147lbs he became the Champion again and 154lbs he again won another title! You're right though, maybe not half, but alot, and as the division Champion, not a belt holder!

My actually point was to make it clear that comparing opponents(or in Cotto's case, Mayweather left overs) trying to make it look as if Cotto did better means nothing when you compare the two fighters as a whole!:good

Oh well I still agree with you, I really was just purely talking about the concept of 'title' vs. 'championship' fight.

I think Floyd's record is WAY more impressive than Cotto's though this is natural because Floyd has been active for longer than Cotto. I believe Cotto will be a great champion one day, one of the best fighters of his era (though if Floyd really stays retired, he will be considered from the 'next' era if you know what i mean), but if he fights Floyd in 08 I think he will lose.

Heres another thought though, what if Floyd does take 08 off? Meanwhile, Williams and Cintron fight lets say, Cintron wins (just making this up). Cotto fights Oscar at the same time, then fights Cintron and wins.. This leaves Cotto with a couple of belts! 09 rolls around, maybe early in the year, Floyd comes back kand decides to fight Cotto. After a year of inactivity, could even a gym rat of the highest order Floyd belongs to come back 100% after al that time off?

I think most people around here are in agreement that if Floyd fights in early-mid 2008 he has no reason to take a tune up. But if Floyd really does take a year off, shoul he take a tune up before fighting a Cotto, Williams, or Cintron (whoever the top welterweight is in his absence) ??

If so, what kind of fighter would Floyd take? I guess one of the losers of the Coto-Williams-Cintron fights, or maybe Margarito?

Guess I'm just sort of thinking out loud at this point.

If Floyd's body really is in as bad shape as Floyd says, part of me thinks "Well maybe after a year of rest, he could come back and be even better than he is now. He could let his hands rest and come back and punch with power, in combinations like he used to at 130 lbs", but part of me also worries that after a year (or more) off, he will have lost something in his game, that will make him vulnerable.

Why the **** do fans of pretty boy use pics of him in his underwear or posing w/o a shirt? I guess that is what they envision when talking about him.

This doesn't really prove anything but two fighters with different styles of fighting.
