i agree with you for the most part... but i just dont think the fight will be a complete flop... they could make it decent if they wanted... throw in a 24/7

funny were talking about ppv #'s i just saw an advertisement for cotto vs marg...

very average comercial... and it reminded me of the commercials i used to see when i was little and didnt know **** about boxing.. cause it was just 2 random guys i never heard of

I don't think that Calzaghe v Jones is 24/7 worthy ... if Jones v Trinidad wasn't what makes Calzaghe v Jones so special?

I can see it doing 250k buys ... Jones can still attract the casual fan and since its in NY - i'm sure the ticket sales won't be a problem.

Then again Jones is co-promoting this fight and I haven't heard of him having success as a promoter ... and his pre fight bull**** will likley kill the numbers.

As someone who is underemployed, the economy clearly affects my ability to buy PPV.

Jones vs Trinidad did 500k buys. You really think 60%, or even 50%, of those people only bought to watch Tito?

However, ticket sales sucked for that fight, and they probably won't be great for this one. Jones likes to charge twice as much as the other fights that happen at MSG. No way am I going to pay $350 for second-level tickets, and I suspect that's around what they'll charge.

i agree with fitz.... the latin population def helped out the sales of that fight...

nobody in the states really knows calzaghe so maybe the fight will completely flop

You have got to be the dumbest motherfuc!er on this site. No one knows who Margarito is. Hell he has been on Showtime and HBO 4 times in the the last year and a half. Cotto and Margarito is what real boxing fans have been craving. No one knows who Casamayor is. He has been a boxing start since wat 2001. Appearing on Hbo and Showtime around 10 or more times in the past 4 or five years.

he is correct....the casual boxing fan has no clue who these fighters are...

if you asked someone who wasnt really big into sports in general who the fighters you just listed are they would have no clue

if you ask them about floyd or oscar kimbo or rampage... they might recognize those names

Yeah Calzaghe is a far better figher than Hatton. Calzaghe vs Jones, Cotto vs Margarito, and JMM vs Casa are all going to be great fights .

he might be better than hatton but in that fight... roy is going to act like himself.. instead of trying to be a counter part to calzaghe

    like how floyd did...

floyd was in the uk wearing a machester jersey flicking off the crowd...

roy wont do anything that drastic

Agreed. Calzaghe-Jones should do 500 at least.

Part of the problem is, you got 33991010 PPVs in a span of two months. It's ridiculous.

Hatton v Mayweather was 2 undefeated fighters ... Calzaghe is the only undefeated fighter and most of the boxing public don't believe in Roy Jones ... atleast not 100k's worth of the public and I highly doubt that Calzaghe can pull in 100k buys himself ...

Another ridiculous fight on the horizon ... Pavlik moving up to LHW ... and fighting a boring fighter in Bernard Hopkins ...

This fight doesn't do that many buys ...

Back in the old days when the country was in bad shape, most people would look to sports as an outlet to the harsh times. The horrible economy has alot to do with it, I myself now, pick my PPV's wisely, unlike a couple years ago where I would buy them and not think twice about it. I think most people rather buy 50 dollars worth of food, than see some 45 minute fight.

The UFC dont help much either, the 20 something guys now adays unfortunately would rather watch that than Boxing. Times are changing, when Oscar retires, look for PPV revenue to take a big hit as well.
