It's the damaging blows that leave the fighter conscious and on his feet I was referring to.

Here's another fight between boxer and MMA fighter from UFC 1. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu on display here. Gracie was known for his ability to neutralize much larger opponents with his fighting style. Then of course, wrestler Matt Hughes much later earned the title of "Gracie Killer". I'll admit, this fight was about as exciting as Toney/Couture. The boxer chose to wear one glove to protect his hand btw.

We are talking long-term brain health here, not injuries, even serious ones.

The likelyhood of serious brain trauma is greater in boxing because of the increased amount of punches taken, the padding on the gloves, and the 10 second rule.

Yes, those are pretty serious injuries, but they are not going to kill you or leave you punch drunk.

A broken limb heals, even if it doesn't it allows you to lead a functional life.

A damaged brain doesn't heal and doesn't allow you to lead a high quality of life.

That's not all that should be considered though if you're talking about danger.

It should certainly be the most important.

What do you want, a broken arm for a few months or to drool for the rest of your life?

When people say "less dangerous" they mean serious, serious brain damage. Not that you are less likely to get injured.

you ain't saying anything groundbreaking.i only disagree with what you say about the stance people like vitor belfort have success with a boxing stance.the boxing grappler debate was answered a long time ago.

They certainly could. Several MMA fighters have died due to injuries sustained in fights.

Michael Kirkham and Sam Vasquez for example.

I did a quick search on this and every thing that I read about it states that it was choreographed exhibition. It wasn't a real fight.

    As it was described....

Not from the injuries you listed though. I suppose the suplex, but those are a part of many grappling sports and serious injury is fairly limited.

MMA certainly is dangerous, and can cause brain damage or death. Boxing is more likely to.

I don't know? You could break your neck from a body slam and be paralyzed completely from the neck down. Again, it's hard to make this comparison because there hasn't been anywhere near as many MMA fights as boxing to sample from. It only makes sense that with a higher frequency of fights, there's going to be a higher frequency of accidents both serious and otherwise.

I've seen Marcus Davis fight quite a few times and think he is a very decent fighter he was one of the ultimate fighter contenders. But Nate Diaz punching skill was absolutely stunning and for me a joy to watch.

But there is a dark side, part of me was really getting off on the blood and guts, I wanted more blood more damage. I'm not proud of this aspect of myself I know it's wrong

Often fights are like bloodthirsty boxing. and I worry about becoming desensitised.

It's all right when its people you don't know, but I would hate to see a nephew or friend get busted up the whey Marcus David did.
