Calzaghe has sex with corpses and parades around in the moonlight wearing the skin of a woman...

Hopkins just has sex with corpses.

Hopkins was the greater fighter with the more decorated career.

Calzaghe is great no doubt about it but his level of opposition was questionable, more so than Hopkins and his signature wins came against opposition that was on the wrong side of 35.

Lacy was a good win, so was Kessler. (if you use hindsight to throw in revisionist history you are doing a disservice to both men).

Hopkins has proved that during his career that he was the goods.
20 title defenses of the middleweight title.
Beat a Prime Trinidad (Tito was not shopworn and beating the #2 middleweight he was favored to stop BHop going into their fight. Much like Lacy was going into the Calzaghe fight difference being that Trinidad was greater than Lacy)

    Beat Kelly Pavlik

Beat Antonio Tarver for the LHW title.

I think the whole point of this thread is really to push the agenda for Joe, I get it you're a fan. But I can't bring myself to aggrandize Calzaghe to the extent that I can call him greater than Hopkins. I simply can't.

And most reasonable fans probably can't either.

Calzaghe's more gifted and the better fighter but based on resume Hopkins is more impressive. And he's still going. Calzaghe bowed out early that marred his legacy more than a loss or two would have.

    Proved the most you say:-

    Calzaghe 21 title defences.
    Hopkins 20 title defences.

Calzaghe champ at his career weight for 10 yrs 11 mths 15 days.
Hopkins champ at his career weight for 10 yrs 2 mths 17 days.

Calzaghe best win was over Hopkins.
Calzaghe best career weight win was over prime multiple undeafeated fellow super middleweight Kessler, who went on to win many more titles at the weight.
    Hopkins best win Tarver.
Hopkins best career weight win was against a welterweight that had only one previous fight at Hopkins middleweight division in Trinidad, Trinidad retired after one more fight he did make a comeback and fought 4 times in total after Hopkins losing 2 of them.

Calzaghe only fought bums and old men. And he lost to one old man.

All of which were against bums or old men.

Hopkins reigned as undisputed champion, and defended the undisputed championship. Calzaghe never did.

You see, it's very easy to keep doing the tit-for-tat.

But what you can never change is that Hopkins will be recognized by history as the greater fighter.

    And rightfully so. Forever. :good

One thing to mention that is often overlooked and that is a 'live' fight between Hopkins and Calzaghe, Calzaghe won.

Balances and counter balances on both sides as to how close or how far away from their peaks they were, but everybody agrees that it was a 'live' fight unlike Hopkins V Jones Jnr for the second time or Calzaghe V Jones Jnr, it was a 'live' fight and Calzaghe won away from home.

Hopkins was 6 years past his peak, and outboxed Joe anyway.

    Serious fans know this.

Different careers. Calzaghe went long (36?), beat some legends (on the downside but so did the vaunted Marciano), and retired undefeated. Hopkins has a great resume but some bad performances and some chicken-**** tactics at time.

I am mature enough to respect both guys as greats and realize they just had different career arcs.
