Doomeddisciple,i agree with your post except duran would have knocked out hatton as well...
There is NO comparison whatsoever with duran /leonard 1 and pbf hatton, duran was the greatest lightweight/pressure fighter in the history of the game who could box, brawl, take a shot, had great stamina, awesome agression, fierce workrate, awesome body attack and tremendous power along with every punch in the book....Ricky is a very good pressure fighter but doesnt have even a quarter of the boxing skills, durability and intelligence of duran....
As for floyd, well ray leonard stood and punched it out with a monster duran for FIFTEEN rounds,i guarantee floyd couldnt even stand for ONE round with carlos 'light slow puncher' baldomir.....No way will floyd 'safety first' mayweather trade at length with ricky hatton....
Even the second duran leonard fight has no bearing on this one,as duran was out of shape and i guarantee ricky will be in top shape....
I think jirov/toney is closer but still not right as floyd wont be as offensive or high in workrate as toney..... chavez/taylor is wrong as well as floyd doesnt have the workrate or the offensive mentality to do that to hatton.....
This fight will be ricky chasing and mauling and pbf running, potshotting and ducking....If floyd realises he cant win that way THEN we might get to see floyd actually try to win a fight by punching in bunches, and that will be pretty interesting......:hi:

But Ricky chasing, mauling and brawling PBF on the ropes is Duran vs Leonard I... Of course, Floyd can'trun and potshot from that position but can couter short n move alongside the ropes. If Floyd realises he can't win that way, he will have to fight off the ropes with flurries ( or punches in bunches) which is Ray Leonard's act... I do expect Floyd to move side to side, jab and put faster punches together though, but that's Leonard vs Duran II... I'm sorry, there are too many similarities in the styles - The short-armed, body puncher, pressure fighter, heavier hitter Duran coming from lighter weights and the taller, fast handed virtuoso Ray Leonard with counter shots, otherwise Hatton wouldn't mention it - Ricky did talk about Duran-Leonard, Honeygham-Curry, Castillo-PBF and Hoya-PBF.

But you cannot compare the skils and style of duran with hatton, nor floyd with leonard....Hatton is more a a swarmer/brawler type and pbf is a potshotter at present.....
Duran was a supremely skilled pressure fighter and leonard was the ultimate adaptable boxer with different styles to win fights...

Man I had forgotten about that fight , it was shown on the BBC at ( if I remeber correctly ) like 11.30 on a Sunday morning with no fanfare or big build up and its probably one of the 5 best fights I ever saw. i don't think Folyds will lie on the ropes as much as Toney did I agree with the poster who said he expects Floyd to come out fast , he has to, If he lets hatton settle into a rythym he is in toruble.

If nothing else thanks for reminding me of that fight !

As much as I cannot stand Toney, I have to agree. Both fighters were in great shape and provided fans with a hell of a fight.

I doubt Mayweather vs. Hatton would be even as 1/2 entertaining.
