They say that the 90s was one the strongest heavyweight era. Imo, it was second to the 70s and above the 60s.

Today's era, for most people, is one of the weakest.

Let's compare. If everyone is in their prime:

    Evander Holyfield vs. Wladimir Klitschko
    Lennox Lewis vs. Chris Byrd
    Mike Tyson vs. Nikolay Valuev
    Riddick Bowe vs. Vitali Klitschko
    Michael Moorer vs. Sergei Liakhovich
Oliver McCall vs. Juan Carlos Gomez
Old George Foreman vs. Corrie Sanders
    David Tua vs. Sam Peter
    Frank Bruno vs. Ruslan Chagaev
    Andrew Golota vs. Lamon Brewster
    Bruce Seldon vs. Jameel McCline
    Ray Mercer vs. Sultan Ibragimov
    Tommy Morrison vs. James Toney
    Razor Ruddock vs. Hasim Rahman
    Shannon Briggs vs. John Ruiz

No matter how many people here try to argue that todays division stacks up to the 90's I will never believe it. And the same goes for the arguement that todays Vladamir beats Lennox Lewis of the 90's, I just wont have any of it. :-(

I like the matchups, but the 90s were so damn fun to watch. Heavywieght boxing isnt what it used to be in popularity, the excitement is not even close to what use to be IMO.

Definitly not a bad list for the 2000's, especially if you consider that there are 3 more years in this era; if you add Povetkin and Boytzov (the latter is speculation at this point) then you have a very solid list of fighters.

this is a little bit off topic but......

Look at that list of fighters - the best of the 90's.

Lewis fought 10 of them. And 2 of the 2000's.
Holy fought 6 of them. And 4 of the 2000s.
Tyson fought 6 of the 90's.

I think that shows Lewis fought the best guys, and was the best fighter of the period surely? ;)

Anyway. Corrie Sanders should be in the 90's. He was basically semi retired when he beat Wlad. He's a 90's fighter that hung around.

That just makes the 90's look even stronger.
