Okay, we all know Tyson Fury's story. 2 1/2 years off. Ballooned up to about 380 pounds. Drink, cocaine, depression, obesity etc. We also know he's been training constantly for several months now, we expect him to be lighter in his next fight than he was in the Seferi fiasco and we shall see what he performs like soon enough. On the face of it, his chances against Wilder as soon as November, with just Seferi and Pianeta and preparation, would appear limited. But .... Luis Ortiz DID almost beat Wilder in March 2018. Luis Ortiz was almost 39 years old officially, and estimated by many to be 5 or 10 years older ! Luis Ortiz was on medication for high blood pressure. His record leading up to the Wilder fight : Luis Ortiz fought Daniel Martz in December 2017 as his tune-up. Luis Ortiz was off for 12 months prior to the Daniel Martz fight, and his fight in December 2016 was against David Allen. Daniel Martz and David Allen might as well be Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta. A month before David Allen, Ortiz faced a pathetic Malik Scott in Monaco. Scott ran all night. In March of 2016 (2 years before he fought Wilder) Ortiz fought an old man Tony Thompson, who'd actually recently lost to Malik Scott. You have to go back to December 2015 for Luis Ortiz winning a good fight against a top10-worthy ranked opponent, when he beat Bryant Jennings. It's not inconceivable that Tyson Fury, in spite of everything we know about him over the last 3 years, might actually enter the ring as a BETTER fighter than Luis Ortiz.
Nothing is impossible when you believe in yourself, your abilities, and aren’t afraid to take chances. Tyson Fury has all of the above, so to me it’s going to be interesting. I want to see how Deontay handles a larger man who has good mobility and who is also going to lean on him tie him up and possibly man handle him in the clinches. I personally can’t wait to see it.
It's possible but if you do enough mental gymnastics you can always prove a point of view, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty it's all if's and buts. I'd favour any version of Ortiz we've seen so far KO the Fury that fought Seferi. But Fury at 80% schools Ortiz badly and wins a wide UD. Question what Fury will show up vs Pianeta and more importantly what Fury shows up vs Wilder?
Fury is sort of an overachiever to begin with. He was in the right place and right time against Wlad, and fought a smart fight, but I’m not convinced that act would work on everyone. We’ve seen him get drilled with right hands before.
Wilder is all wrong for him, in my opinion Wilder would even beat the Düsseldorf version of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua would also beat him. Fury would school guys like Ortiz, Povetkin and Parker though because those guys are one dimensional and small with slow movement and planted feet in the case of Ortiz. He's a top 3 heavyweight in top shape but Wilder and Joshua are all wrong for him at least in my opinion but i could be wrong, never rule a guy like Tyson Fury out.
Fury will be fine. The guy is 6'9". As funny as it sounds, losing 120 pounds over 6-8 months is not an inordinately difficult task. Impressive, but but hardly prohibitive. Give him the Pianeta fight and see how he does there. As for Wilder, he is not talented, and is only fighting Fury because he thinks Fury will be another cripple like the heart patient he last fought. If Fury does well against Pianeta, expect a withdrawal and excuse from the guy whose toughest opponent to date is a Las Vegas hooker.
I don't think any current boxer could school Ortiz. He is a very fundamentally sound boxer with a good punch. One thing going for Ortiz against fury is his bodywork. tyson likes to hug and Ortiz has shorter arms. Just my opinion.
Completely incorrect . Ortiz was offered the fight last year as manado but turned it down to fight an easier fight with Wilder. There was not a single deal from Ortiz to AJ that was rejected.
Ortiz' lot was told they would sign for the fight there and then for the next fight after Pulev/Takam Ortiz started quacking, took performance enhancing drugs and went after the soft touch champ, then lost
I disagree that Ortiz almost beat Wilder. He gave Wilder a tough fight and was able to neutralize Wilder's jab, but had no answer for Wilder's straight right hand. Wilder was still landing it too often. If Fury comes in around 240-245 and and still has his timing I think he has the potential to neutralize both Wilder's jab and straight right, which could result in him beating Wilder. However, Fury would still be vulnerable to Wilder's right cross and Wilder isn't the type of guy to give up easily.
