Tyson had a chin made of granite. You could not hurt the guy with a single shot. Look how many flush blows it took Lewis to put him down. Lewis even said how shocked he was that Tyson was taking those punches.

This is on the level of exaggeration when Marciano fans say Marciano was never hurt.

marciano was hurt. By Walcott in round 1 and 11, by a Louis left hook in round 1, and by Moore's smashing right square in the nose which blacked Marciano out for 1 second. He was also clearly hurt by a Carmine Vingo right hand.

But I have never seen him badly hurt on film

Here's that video i was talking about, guys like Mike Tyson have this same instinct. Against Lennox Lewis, the odds on him winning may have been very slim...after afew rounds, but he kept on fighting.

This video ****s me up in the head, makes me want to cry.

    This is only part one.

Yep, I would say their chins are equal or very comparable on a P4P scale. Perhaps Marciano even comes out ahead on some P4P scaling.

"hurt" means to not be able to recover from it quickly imo.

the only time that i think tyson was hurt by a single blow in round 1 against lennox. i know lennox was the greatest puncher tyson faced but...i honestly think this had more to do with tyson being old, bald, shot, inactive, and poorly conditioned. a 1987 tyson who fought 3-4 times a year would have taken those blows much better. don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to take away from lewis' win but just look at tyson vs nielsen before lewis

Ruddock hit him with a single shot in the first fight that stunned him.

I don't think he saw the first one coming at all...and the sound...OMG, was that loud.

    3:00; 314
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCttLWZVjz0[/ame]

OK, maybe the first one got him but it was more with the follow up, specifically the uppercut as he was ducking that really got him but...I tried. 3:14 is a single shot but he was still in hurt mode.

By the way, funny how people over-look this fight. Tyson showed heart, no?

Wasn't Ruddock supposed to win because "all you have to do is stand-up to the bully, punch him in his mouth, and he will fold," come into play?
I guess not. I guess that bully took it and fought back.

It's interesting though because in the second fight, he took similar shots, if not some that looked even harder....like the one that had his mouth-piece flying out and yet it didn't seem to hurt him exactly like the above. You just never really know what is going to hurt you. Maybe he adapted. Either way, it's not something I wouldn't want to be hit by.

Rocky Marciano will have to be getting up off that canvas more than once then................seriously what kind of bull**** is this..? Mike Tyson would kill Rocky Marciano, not only was he smaller, slower, technically he was not good enough defensively to beat Mike Tyson. Rocky Marciano was 185pound, and compared to Mike Tyson he was a small pressure fighter.

He's a dead man against Mike Tyson. Bigger, faster, more technically superior..!!!

Mike Tyson has plenty of heart, he always fought of instinct, and never retreated in a fight. Weather he was hurt or in trouble, he was always always fighting back. Like a Lion in the wild, just had that primal instinct to fight back even at the jaws of defeat.

Rocky Marciano was a good fighter, but its simple maths. At 185 pounds, flat footed, and abit of a buiser, he's a dead man up against Mike Tyson.

    Heart alone..???

    You ****ing silly *******.

How many times did Gatti lose?
Can you question how big that guy's heart was?

Tyson never got off the floor to win because his chin was to good, legs to strong, and training/will helped keep him up when it may have better served him to take a knee for example.

You had to beat the **** out of the man because he wasn't going down early and/or from "flash-knock-downs."

But remember, he was stunned in fights and came back to win. I think that is as good as being knocked down and coming back to win. Especially since people claim some that are knocked down from "flash-knock-downs" aren't really hurt...like Marciano being knocked down twice and not being hurt or that hurt.

Don't penalize the guy because of his strengths. He still came back from being hurt, and most of all, he didn't get that 8 second rest you get when on the ground and the action stops. The other guy continued to pound. Much harder if you think about it.

Neither did Lennox Lewis or Jim Jeffries.

    Oh well.

Jeffries at least over came a broken arm, and he did get up vs Johnson, 3 times. Thats more than Lewis imo.

Lewis was down 2 times, and both times the fight was over than.

Lewis got up both times. Just a little late on the second one!

I've never bought into the "he's not great because he's never come off the deck to win" theory, because even with guys known for battling heart it just doesn't happen that much. It's better not to go down in the first place!"

I don't think Frazier ever did it. Foreman didn't. Holyfield only did it once, against Cooper. Whenever else he was knocked down, he lost that fight.

Wheras both Tommy Morrison and Michael Grant have come back from more knockdowns to win. Morrison two or three times, Grant twice. Pretty hard knockdowns too.

So are they bigger battlers than Holyfield? Or would it have been better for them not to get knocked down?
