I find these two fights interesting to compare as there are a lot of similarities on paper.

Haye and Usyk – both Cruiserweight champs, both with roughly the same measurements, 6’3”, 78”, 210 and 220 lbs, both about 3 years into their heavyweight careers coming to challenge the much larger unified champion. Joshua and Wladimir have similarities too – 6’6”, 81-82” reach, around 240lbs; both known for power but also for having a somewhat gunshy, jab-heavy outboxing style after their chin has let them down in the past.

The nationalities are reversed, of course, but most essentially: the outcome of the fight is reversed.
Both showed a powerful puncher being completely shut down over twelve rounds by a superior tactician with superior skills. In Haye-Klitschko, Klitshko’s size advantage probably played into this. In Usyk-Joshua, it was all skill from Usyk. Joshua and Haye were only able to take a couple of rounds in a distinctly one-sided affair where they were expected by some to ‘take [the other man’s] head off’.

How do you think they compare? Which Brit did it better? Which Ukrainian did it better? How does each fight reflect on their respective careers?

Uysk has a lions heart and warrior dog Balls. Haye has a hurty toe.

haye is not skillful fighting big men, hes predictable and Klitchko toyed with him. haye talks a good fight and doesnt deliver, uysk is forever humble and always delivers. Haye should of gone down fighting, no urgency at all after getting pushed back, just flailed like an unskillful ******.

wouldnt be as harsh on haye over the years if he didnt speak so much delusional ****. hes an arrogant ******* and not a nice person, fake nice, not genuine, devious.

Klitschko is a lot better than Joshua and knows how to use his size.

To be fair Klitschko in his prime probably would have dominated Usyk as well. At least you have to favor him for the time being.

The vastly more skilled fighter won in each fight.

The tremendously hyped fighter lost in each fight.

Hype met skill and lost. Classic cases, really.

Klitschko far more athletic than Joshua. Much quicker on his feet was able to control range better. Haye whole explosive and athletic is not the boxer Usyk is, in short Usyk is better than Haye and Wlad better than Joshua.

The difference is that Usyk has surpassed Haye in every metric. They aren't in the same league.

-Usyk was undisputed crusierweight, Haye only unified.
-Usyk had better wins at cruiser (Briedis, Gassiev, Bellew, Glowacki, Huck, Mchunu, Hunter...against Fragomeni, Maccarinelli, and Mormeck).
-Usyk is a unified champ at heavy, whereas Haye was only a beltholder
-Usyk's win against Joshua is better than Haye's wins against Valuev and Ruiz together.
    - Usyk is undefeated, whereas Haye has four losses, two in his prime.

Usyk is just much, much better in every way.

not to change subjects on your thread or anything, but another comparison you can make to saturday's fight is W. Klitschko vs SUltan Ibragimov... Ibragimov was a clever tricky southpaw... If AJ can implement this strategy... get a crazy jab going, and don't let Usyk near you... he might be able to win on points.. lol but not likely

The Brits are more hyped and better marketed whereas Ukranians are more skilled and better overall fighters in both cases.

In both cases the guy with the style advantage prevailed.

Haye is a counter puncher, he stands in front of you, hands down trying to draw a lead so he can hit you with a counter, he was never a seek and destroy type fighter. Wlad in contrast wants to get off first so letting him do so gives him an advantage because he relies on getting off first then either moving off or clinching. Haye basically waited, got hit, went to counter then hit air or was clinched, he was never allowed into the fight.

Usyk too took the role of counter puncher in this fight though he is capable of pressing and breaking an opponent down as the Bellew fight showed. But difference here is Joshua isn't a jab and grabber like Wlad, he likes to lead with the jab but instead of moving off or clinching then wants to counter. Problem here is Usyk's style is to take away your jab and even use your jab against you to create openings and then counter you. So Joshua's jab became a liability and instead of becoming a way to set up his counters he became a way for Usyk to set up his.

In regards to who did better of the losers. I'd say AJ, he was able to make adjustments that Haye was never able to do. It wasn't enough to win him the fight but it prevented AJ from being overwhelmed and taken apart which with how Usyk was able to hurt him a number of times was a definite possibility if he hadn't of made those adjustments.

Haye didn't do anything at CW or HW

He's a bum dosser who conned a few paydays from British casuals.

How dare you even put his name in the title alongside Usyk.

To clarify: I'm not comparing Haye to Usyk in the positive sense. Usyk is leagues above him by my estimation, though I have been surprised by how many people have rated Haye over Usyk, see this video:

Nonetheless, the point is that the fights have a lot of similarities on paper but played out in entirely inverted ways.

As far as the fight itself goes, the main comparison is Usyk-Klitschko and Joshua-Haye as the losers of the fight.

Can’t really compare the two fights. The only similarities are Haye and Usyk were challenging a heavyweight champion that had a considerable size advantage.

Joshua although a former unified champion and talented is still an inexperienced fighter compared to Wlad, who was a seasoned vet with more than twice as many fights as Joshua and by the time of the Haye fight was used to fighting smaller more mobile fighters.

The only somewhat mobile fighter Joshua has experience with was Parker, but Parker was about as inexperienced as Joshua himself.

Wlad on the otherhand by the time he fought Haye had experience with Byrd, Ibragimov, Brock, and Chambers, so Haye’s handspeed and mobility wasn’t anything new to him.

Wlads jab took away Hayes aggression
Joshua was unsuccessful using his jab vs. Usyk.

Wlad had Haye in survival mode the majority of the fight.
Joshua could not influence Usyk with his power.

Pretty simply, Wlad easily handled the former CW Haye.
Usyk put on a master class.

    Prime Wlad>Joshua
    Usyk>>Haye
