I have 8 weeks until I fight as part of a White Collar event/ fundraiser. I'm 250lbs, never boxed before and had my first training session tonight. I learned that I've got no rhythm, coordination, speed, stamina or power... But, lots of room for improvement! I'm hoping that work on my footwork will make me feel less clumsy, I'm sure this 8 weeks will absolutely fly past. There is a group of around 30 of us, all non-fighters (although some certainly look more comfortable with it than others, I'm sure some of them have certainly trained previously) We have two training sessions booked each week - Mondays & Wednesdays and I'm looking for some tips of what I can do in between these sessions to help me not make a complete fool of myself. Many thanks Stuart
you could train everyday for 6 months and still make a fool of yourself in your first fight that being said... just remember to keep you hands up
You often have to sell a full table of tickets at $100 a seat on these shows. Most of it usually goes to charity but it's a big financial commitment.
You are asked to sell tickets, but trees no financial commitment, it's to raise money for Cancer Research. Any training tips greatly appreciated
At an event like this there will be minimal actual boxing on show. Apart from the twice weekly sessions work on your cardio as workrate will be what wins these fights. I would guess you are doing 3 x 2s? Train accordingly in 2 minute bursts of as high an intensity as you can manage, runs, bagwork, shadow boxing, whatever. Just get used to two minute bursts of high intensity work so that when the night comes you are able to keep throwing both hands for the full duration of each round.
Take what you learn in your training sessions and use it when you shadowbox at home. I'll often be doing chores, stop and get into stance, throw some combos I've been thinking about, then keep going about my day. For training purposes though, do it in rounds like the other guy suggested.
He's 250lbs. Never boxed before. Is having trouble with his footwork and has only has 8 weeks to prepare. Forget the double jab in his first fight. Aint gonna work for him.
Learn the basics, jab, cross, hook, upercut, hands up,chin down, practice them every day,do some cardio aswell..
This one for charity seems nice but loads of them charge the white collar guys like 2k to train them for 8 weeks when they could just get a trainer and fight as novice for like 100 bucks a month
