Completely swap the era's of young and byrd; how successful would they be?

Was the Ike loss Byrd's 11th fight?

 

Really, its YOUR insights that matter. A sport lives and dies on its fans, and I generally love the perspective of boxing fans.

I like the era's I've lived in plenty. If I could redo it, I'd do everything I did, except I'd have listened to my father and not been a waste of breath in my twenties. I think I could have been a fringe contender had I done that, as I'm large, strong, and have a good chin, and just maybe gotten the privilege of getting the tar knocked out me by a Mike Tyson, or an Evander Holyfield without headgear on.

I'd have better stories! Its tough to be an old man in this game. So slow now. So achey. When I watch guys like Cris Arreola on television, I salivate with my young brain, but I have to acknowledge my old body probably couldn't execute well enough anymore to win the big break fight if I ever got one.

Best I hope for is a 10 rounder on ESPN with some young stud and ride off into the sunset with my ability to form words intact.

On topic, I'd have loved to fight Chris Byrd. I'd lose 120-108, but I'd bet I'd improve, and the pain would be manageable. That guy was very good, just a bit too small for the monsters about now. I picture myself inches shorter with 40 less pounds fighting Wladimir straight up, and I think to myself, Chris Byrd has cajones like a bull.

 

No, Byrd was 26-0.

 

Then how can the Shavers and Ike losses of Young and Byrd (respectively) be grouped together? Young's loss to Shavers came in his 11th pro bout and Byrd's came in his 26th.(I'm addressing Mongoose here)

Shavers kayoing a green young isn't even all that good a win for him.

Young sucked back then. His first 11 fights, he was losing to anybody with anything under the hood.

Its was like the Shavers kayo woke him up though. Steady improvement from there.

Young does awesome considering he'd get the decisions he deserved with Don King at his back.

 

Young was better defensively than Byrd...he had a better chin to go with his slipperyness. The fighters Young fought and got screwed against..Ali and Norton..both would have beaten Byrd. The Foreman Young beat would have taken Byrd's head off..you think Ike did a number on him..

 

Every word? Let's just focus on one thing here...you think Byrd's chin was better than Young's?

 

The Foreman Young fought was not the same man who steam rolled Joe Frazier. The loss to Ali took a lot out of Foreman psychologically speaking, and the near collapse to Lyle did the same.

I think Byrd, who was more mobile than Young was, would like win a decision over the same Foreman Young fought. Byrd biggest problem was he fought in the modern super heavyweight era. I do not think Young would do as well in the 1990's or 2000's. Young was a slow moving puncher's worst night mare, but he wasn't quite the escape artist that Byrd was.
