This matches my scorecard exactly except for Round 7, which I gave to Ward (may have to watch that round again). Will post total punches landed by round and then who I scored the round for afterwards. Seen it. This also should concern Team Kovalev greatly. Through 19 scored rounds, you outlanded (and I think out-threw) Ward yet the judges had you behind in both instances. If I'm Team Kovalev, I'm going to think very hard before I fight Ward in the USA again. I think Duva said after the fight that she's done with Vegas or something like that, at least when she is going against Roc Nation fighters (like Ward).
Here are the CompuBox totals for the two Kovalev-Ward fights taken together. Kov -----> 221 punches landed Ward ----> 196 punches landed Kov ------> 881 punches thrown Ward -----> 575 punches thrown Total CompuBox rounds "won" over the two fights (including R8 second fight) Kov -------> 12 Ward ------> 08 The disparity in punches thrown may also somewhat explain Kovalev's stamina issues (at least in the first fight). He appears to have been working harder than Ward was (workrate), which could tire him out.
I had Ward only winning 2 rounds up until the stoppage. We saw 2 very suspect stoppage victories for RocNation fighters.
Lampley mentions that in an earlier posted video. Ward was more effective with less shots. I doubt Ward fights him again. There is no point. He already wrecked him.
Not buying it. It doesn't match what I saw, what Lederman saw, or what the one judge saw. Lampley's job is to put lipstick on a pig. I get it. Until the 8th round, Kovalev landed the harder shots. Ward made a good stand in the 8th, but when you look at the totality of the two fights it just doesn't add up as regards the scoring. I'm sure Team Kovalev will review all this information before deciding if they are interested in another bout with Ward in the USA.
After the fight, Duva said something like "there were 4 questionable decisions" (she may have included Ward-Kov 1 in that statement) and they all went in favor of Roc Nation fighters. Sad, but that's boxing. Looking at the CompuBox numbers over the two fights, I can't see how Kovalev agrees to fight Ward in the USA again. Why would he?
Dream on. Ward will never fight him again. Beating his ass once was a enough. He is solved. He was also winning on two cards.
Agreed. I had a few of the early rounds as close, but CompuBox reinforces my feeling in giving those rounds to Kovalev.
So only the number of punches landed counts and not the quality? 2 grazing punches landed beat one fully connected blow? Nah. Compubox sucks.
Ward scored 53 power punches to Kovalevs 50 plus blasted his head off on the 8th and beat him down. Dream on if you think ward fights him again. Ward will move on to bigger challenges. Maybe Kov can fight stevenson who I am sure is feeling a little more confident after watching this beat down.
Yes, and that seems to be the problem. Similar to the first fight. If Kovalev can't get fair scoring, why fight Ward again? So the second fight might have been about it.
I'll never understand why it is so hard for the people to understand this simple fact. It's not so hard, guys, really, it isn't.
