Kovalev scored with mostly Jabs nevertheless those are scoring punches, he never hurt ward and landed few heavy shots. But he looked busy and smothering most of wards attempts to get inside by holding

Ward on the other hand appeared to be landing the harder and more effective body shots that took a toll on kovalev accumulating into a beat down.

Im am not a judge and never will be. But i would think that judges are counting those heavy hard punches differently from those pitty pat busy jabs.

I was actually really enjoying that scrap.

Kovalev seemed improved in all areas, and Ward too. They seemed much more willing to exchange, and I've got to concede that not only can Ward take a punch, but that he was hitting harder than I've ever seen him hit before. He was actually fun to watch for a change. Kovalev was a hive of activity and I think he proved conclusively he is the superior fighter at range. What's more, his stamina was better than the first time. The first fight he was flat in round 5. This time he slowed down at around the same mark, BUT was still throwing a lot even in the start of the 8th.

Such a weak-ass ending to the fight though

Kovalev was killing Ward with the jab early. He controlled the fight with it, I thought.

Because they think boxing is hit and not get hit. Which is wrong because that is amateur boxing.

    Again, totally agree.

Look, Kovalev got caught midway through the 8th round by what looked like borderline but legal shots. So, all credit to Ward for that.

Was the fight over? No. Just as Joshua-Wlad was not over once Wlad put Joshua on the canvas.

It's a shame it was stopped, but I thought Kovalev was ahead when it ended.
