That was an interesting read von, i tried the glass of water method, i cant say its an instantly easy thing to do for me, just thinking about a single task.. took a while, so you say your just concentrating on getting the glass of water and how it would feel, i found myself thinking about breathing and couldnt stop thinking about it, is that bad? lol. id definently like to hear more about this, what do you think about the glass of water method scrap? it sounds similair to the one you told me about, am i not there if im still thinking about other things? breathing? things going on around if its not perfectly quiet? its harder than it sounds.

Yes, it is like anything else, you have to work at it. Personally, I think traditional meditation is fine to start with. As always, the glass of water is just an example, it can be done with anything. And it is considerably harder than it sounds.

You concentrate on everything going on leading up to getting the glass of water. If you are sitting to walk to the refrigerator, you are attempting to become mindful of everything your body is doing, recognizing the feel of making contact with the ground as you step, concentrating fully on what it feels like to grasp the glass, etc. It is painfully slow, but is developed to give somebody a fuller grasp on the mind/body connection. It's just one way to meditate. I myself do far more stuff with thoughts and cognition. This method takes a lot of patience but can be very good for persons with Generalized Anxiety, Anger management, and simply the "hustle and bustle" of the "real world."

Von could you give an example of the cognitive method youve mentioned? like you have the glass of water principle? that was nice and easy to understand.

Look up Cognitive distortions and Rational Emotive Behavior on the internet.

The idea is that two events cause different emotions in others because the way they perceive, interpret, and rationalize the event is different. It happens all the time on this forum. Posts about I got beaten easily today in sparring and am really down, this hasn't happened in __years or that sort of flavor come up sometimes on here. Whereas a healthy outlook/cognition/belief/self talk on it would be "great, this is an opportunity to improve by working with somebody better than me." Same event, different emotional outcomes due to percieving the event differently.

It takes work to change our cognition.

Gatto, I think one of the main reasons for doing it , is it clears the pscyhcodinamics of dont in movement. Those little memorys that stops the expression of Do, in movement by aprehension. It stops the flow by unclear thought, by History in the grey matter.:nut :D
