Hey all, ive been boxing for around 7 years now and never got knocked down in sparring or fights. I have a fight coming up early February and I got "my bell rung" for the first time yesterday. Things went dim/fuzzy and a really loud ringing was in my head for around seconds. My legs went so I went down, but I wasn;t out cold. Now, should I hold off on this fight and how much should I rest, considering this is a low grade concussion? Any experiences/advices would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Did you ask a medical professional before asking for opinions from anonymous people on this forum?

Quit now before you get seriously hurt, you aint cut out for this

    All the best

No, because it takes at least a few weeks to set up an appointment with the family doc to ask him this and the web has many different conflicting answers. I thought a place where amateur boxers talk about their experience might be a good reference point. So sorry!

c-man: thanks for the advice. I also am a troll on the internet sometimes, its pretty rad. All the best!

You've got good intentions, but this post is a little harsh.
Why is he not cut out for this? He isn't spewing off delusional stuff like, " Ok, so I just started training and my goal is to turn pro within 2 years". He's simply asking us about the standard recovery time for a concussion.
My answer would be that there is no standard recovery time for a concussion and that he should consult a physician before sparring again.

my trainer says that after a hard knockout (sleeping on the canvas) recovery time is minimum a year (no sparring).

if you were just shaked, get a week or two rest and resume your training.

and of course, dont take this advice about YOUR health serious, this is internet forum, the worst place to seek health advices.

You should be fine for February, just cut back on the Sparring.

Seriously though.. 7 years of boxing and that's your first time getting hit like that?

Actually, a boxing forum, especially this one, is probably the worst place to ask for injury advice. At a place like this you're more likely to get a "stop being a *****!" response or some "I stopped boxing for a day, took some pills and I was fine the next day!" bull****.

You won't get any decent advice as your injury is 100% unique to you. It could be worse than you think or you may not have concussion at all, hence the reason you need to get it checked out by a professional, no matter how long it takes to set up an appointment.

If you're going to ask for advice online, at least make it a medical forum for training doctors or something along those lines where they can give you some actual advice (which will most likely be see a professional, obviously).

Just as a guide (as I'm sure you aren't going to go see a doctor - most people don't):

If you get TKO'd in the UK, as an amateur (due to headshots), you are looking at a minimum of 28 days without sparring or competition.
