All the talk about 5 rds is so redundant. It wasn't a 5 round fight, no one trained for 5 rounds. With condit coming off a 5 round fight with GSP he already has the experience to add the 10 extra minutes. Hendricks has to now convert what he does into a 5 round format, thats his task now he will won't be a champion. But what I'm trying to say is Condit has been there before and if he worked a bit harder maybe he would have looked as gassed as Hendricks at the end of the bout.
Just rewatched the fight and there actually is a much stronger case for Condit winning the second round than I originally thought.
29-28 either way. I don't think the fight showed glaring weaknesses in Hendricks though. He is the no.1 contender.
This exactly. Being Hendricks has some cardio issues, and is dangerous on the feet. I don't think it's bold to predict Georges ends up taking him down early and having him gassed by the end of the 3rd, at which point he just gnp's and control's and gets the U.D. Hendricks, I don't think will carry power or the ability to set up that left hand as the fight goes forward. If Hendricks had sick Cardio and the sort of relentless determination/ grinding style of GSP, he'd win. But, he relies on his power a lot and looks less explosive than GSP with his shots/ takedown attempts. GSP takedown and smothering > Hendricks.
The rules state you need to be effective but one word is needed to save boxing and MMA and that word is DAMAGE. That word has to be introduced into the rules and with an emphasis. Fights should be score on offence, defence, ring generalship etc but the emphasis should be placed on damage. That is the only thing that should be interpreted and I would expect there to be much less interpretation then the poor scoring we now see so often. If Hendricks is on top of Condit but getting repeatedly elbowed in the face then it really is much ado about nothing. Every technique in fighting should be designed to eventually bring about damage or a finish. If it doesn't then it really isn't that great.
I`ve only seen the fight once, I thought Condit did the better work & should have got the decision on my first & only viewing.
