Condit vs Hardy in retrospect.

Never watching Hardy fight again. Getting too attached to fighters is a deathwish. Depressing as ****.

Condit is no one :deal big man , anybody who has watched Carlos Condit develop from that skinny kid with good stand up in the WEC to the wrecking machine he is today , all knew he was a better fighter than Hardy going into this fight !!!

I actually picked out a split decision win for Condit , i didnt think Condit would KO Hardy , but i was confident he'd beat him , given the fight was a come back fight for Hardy off a 1 sided loss and in the UK i fancy'd him to push Condit enough to take it to the score cards .................. however

On the lucky punch issue , Joe Rogan described the shot perfectly , Condit's left hook was actually technically much better than Hardys (and thats Hardy's signature punch), it was shorter and bang on target , Hardy's was more of a looping Haymaker which against lesser strikers it probably would of landed and caused a lot of damage , there was nothing lucky about Condits KO of Hardy , Condit displayed superior stand up through the whole fight and right before Hardy got knocked out , i was actually thinking to myself , " Hardy is getting dominated here "

In summary a better fighter won :deal

 

Once again we see a different scenario playing out !!!

Hardy is a top level WW , he belongs in the cage with any of the top tier WW's in the UFC , his domination of Davis and Swick proves that :deal

The UFC are pushing him in the UK because he's ****in marketable there , thats because he's British atsch just like Randy , Chuck , Tito , Lesnar and the many American top level fighters who get the push in the States , and in particular home towns , just like GSP gets the push in Montreal , its the way the fight game works , you put a hometown favourite in his home town , top of the bill , then you advertise the fact youve just done that !!!!

Fact is Hardy has been unfairly critisised for getting a shot at GSP right at a time when there was literally no one else to fight him , thats not his fault , aside from that Hardy has proven that he can and will continue to hang with the UFC's best fighters @170 , his heavy hands and stand up skills will provide a stern test to anybody @170 that is a fact :deal

 

dana white is a promoter, everything he says has to be viewed from that perspective.

carlos condit was out-striking hardy, their was nothing lucky about his ko victory. they both were trading punches and condits left hook got their first and landed cleanly, if anything it was hardys fault for being reckless.

Condit was a nobody? Condit was the ****ing man in WEC, was champ. Great jitz, extremely good with triangles off his back, great chin, and great controlled aggression.

If you thought he was a nobody before this fight, then you need to start following the goings on in other orgs. There are some extremely good fighters outside of the UFC.

 

I didn't think Hardy was getting owned, I thought it was going well back and forth. Condit with more precision, but hardy was landing the better leg kicks, and with a little more power. My impression is still that hardy is one of those huge power guys with less precision, but he gets away with it because his power is very good. I thought the standup was more or less equal back and forth with Condit landing the cleaner shots, but with Hardy investing in the leg kicks to slow down Condit and take some of his power away..

I still think this fight is just a good scrap if it would happen again. But Condit has some big, big advantages on the ground.

Hardy isn't a knockout artist despite what the UFC was selling. He and Condit have a very simlar KO percentage that is good at about 30% is by no means the top hammers in the division. Condit also has a nice sub % and better competition. Hardy should have been the underdog but with that scary mohawk and devil contact lenses he convinced many. Obviously Condit never bought the hype.

Condit is one scary dude and much of the 170 div should be thinking about him.

 

IMO , Hardy was getting picked apart almost dominated at the time of the KO , the expression on his face was starting to become a little desperate , hence he made a technical mistake and got knocked out !!!

Thats what happens when you are a striker and you beleive going into a fight that your opponent is not as good as you on the feet , and 3 minutes into the first round you realise your cooked !!! thats what happened to Hardy against Condit , the realisation kicked in that Condit has equal if not better stand up than Hardy and he made a mistake trying to force an opening !!!

Simple as that .............

For what its worth i actually think Condit was landing more leg kicks than Hardy and Hardy was just firing back leg kicks because Condit was throwing them , it looked like the leg kicks was part of Condits game plan and natural stand up arsenal , and Hardy's were just retaliating leg kicks IMO , you could see he was content to drag Condit into a boxing match .........

For what its worth Hardy was beaten by a more well rounded fighter , but could of easily landed something substantial on Condit to change that scenario , i beleive Condit to be a better fighter than Dan Hardy , but there aint no shame in that , IMO Condit should be sitting in the top 5 in the world :deal

 

Sort of depends on what you mean by "should be"; if you mean he would be a top 5 welterweight if he fully realized his potential, I agree. If you mean he should currently be ranked in the top 5, I don't think he is quite there. Hard to rank him ahead of GSP, Fitch, Alves, Koscheck, or Nick Diaz.

 

Well takeaway Michael Bisping and who's the next best Brit? Has to be Hardy don't you think?

(after Bisping gets his title shot sometime in the future and loses to Anderson Silva, Bisping-Hardy in London in a catchweight bout would be pretty awesome)

To be fair to Hardy though, he won a #1 contender's match against Mike Swick (who was favored to beat Hardy) for the right to fight GSP, so he did earn the title shot.
