    Hey everyone,
I'm getting ready for competion soon and have a question regarding conditioning.

I was planning on having a training schedule like this:

Mon, Wed, Fri: Boxing training, 2 hours each time. This includes sparring, technique, heavy bag.

Mon, Fri: I also cycle ~14km after training.

Tues, Thurs: Swimming, 1 hour each time.

So as you can see there is no running in my schedule. Is this a problem?
I don't know if I'll keep up with this schedule though, I will probably be too busy on some days throughout the year.

If you are swimming for an hour at time, that sounds like a good replacement for running.

Doesn't look like a problem at all to me, there are more ways to achieve fitness. A good amount of sports specific work, cycling and swimming to complement it. Looks fine.

    Ok thanks for the help!
I currently suck at swimming though so it's currently mainly a lung exercise. But that will change eventually.. I hope.

  5. I'm no fitness coach but I like to head to the park with a soccer ball and run into the ground. That way you're working like an athlete like balance, body mechanics, dynamic stretching you can bring mates around and have fun. You'll be working both aerobic and anaerobic with dashing after the ball.

Touch footy is an alternative or just head to the park with a football. If theres park benches there you can do a few sets of plyos and jumping exercises. Just use your imagination.

sport specific exercises are the best for cardio. running and swimming are great supplements and will help get your weight down easy. swimming is awesome on your body, it's a great stretch and the only risk you run is drowning really. running is mandatory and swimming should not take it's place, but it wouldn't hurt taking a day off from running if you're swimming.

  7. IMO every bit of cardio is good for the ring. Monotonous long and short distance training have their necessary place for cardiovascular health aswell as dynamic stop start requirements needed for field sports like basketball, soccer and touch footy.

Pacquaio and RJJ among others play basketball. Jeff Fenech used to use play rugby league which you can certainly say helped condition his arduous inside brawling style.
