punch the bag/shadow box and focus on keeping your hands up.

It's all about technique and discipline really.. Dropping your hands can do with being tired, but if your disciplined with proper technique you'll keep that guard up regardless. Before thinking "strengthen," think "perfect."

    You could try this

But really, just focus at keeping your hands up proper during your shadow boxing, bags, pads, sparring etc and that should be enough on it's own.

Also make sure your hands and arms and shoulders are as relaxed as they can be when they are up. If you're all tense you will burn youself out and get tired even quicker.

speed bag works well after your workout for your shoulder conditioning

I've just started up boxing again about a month ago and I was sloppy when I started training again but if you work the pads and bags etc and focus on throwing the punch and bringing it straight back to your chin it will become a routine to keep those hands up.

  10. It is hard but it comes with experience. Keep shoulders stretched, learn when to rest them. condition and use proper technique in sparring, shadow boxing, floor to ceiling ball, speed ball. When you're in a heavy fight you rely on instincts because your mind should be focused on better things so keep hands up training sign of hard worker.

Like most guys have said, keeping your hands up is more a habit than anything else. Personally, during sparring or pads I occasionally tap my cheek to make sure my hand is up, especially if I've just eaten an unexpected jab.

Something most guys overlook in terms of building muscular endurance in the shoulders is skipping. Maintaining a good pace for 3 or 4 rounds is pretty harsh on the shoulders and definitely carries some benefit. Combine that with your shadows and bagwork and I don't see any reason why you'd need to drop your hands.
