Its funny this thread turned to dust because i thought it was good to find out what others think. I did some amount of weight training. That means light weights as opposed to heavy weight lifting. When i say light i mean a guy who is 72kg middleweight can bench 40-50kg 3 fast sets x ten. Is this really all that bad for you? I think it must be realised that it wasnt just a chest workout.Legs back arms etc had there exercises to bring balance into the equation. I fround endurance was enhanced and my punch power improved. Just my experience with weight training thats all. this stuff was good for me at the time and i dont look like Rambo or Arnie either:rofl
what does coaching the olympics have to do with anything? Mackie Shilstone has never coached a boxer in his life yet he was the strength coach for mike spinks, roy jones and bernard hopkins.
I dont know about Hop and Spinks but i know he was DEFINTLY Roys strength and conditioning coach. The guy is very good from what i saw of his training. Really put Jones through the paces for his fight with Ruiz.
I meant not their main boxing coach, he indeed was their strength and conditioning coach as well as their nutritionist AFAIK. Jones was really annoyed with him though, it really shows in the documentary prior to the Ruiz fight
Really? I have all of Jones documentaries and i saw the one with Mackie in before the Ruiz fight and never saw that? :think
One of the docu's is basically an hour of Mackie monologue and Jones saying "yep" and "uh huh". He looked very annoyed to me, but out of respect for Shilstone he kept it to himself. Not sure if that is what Jones thought, it's just the way it looked to me. Perhaps because I myself was pretty annoyed with the constant yapping
IMO these big name coaches aren't the greatest for boxers, the best ones i've seen are the ones you never hear about.
you just said he never coached a boxer, and then you said he coached Roy Jones, Mike Spinks, and B-hop
