The accuracy of Bute's counters would be the main concern for Carl but I don't see Bute possessing some of the attributes which have really troubled Froch in the past; namely, someone with intelligent use of foot speed and someone who can work away effectively and consistently on the inside.

Bute's footwork is decent enough and he does have power when he lands his counterpunches but it's not really concussive, which i reckon it would need to be to put a sustained dent in Froch. He's more of a spiteful puncher who wears down opponents with late stoppages IMO. But it's true that he has the edge over Carl in power without doubt.

About your point in workrate, I'd actually give Froch the edge in this one. He's the one I'd favour if the fight was punishing heading into the championship rounds. He's the 1 with experience in gruelling 12 rounders and is often the fighter who finishes stronger- even so against Ward I thought.

I could just see Carl, if he kept the fight at range and pushed the jab through with some authority having a good deal of success. The right hand would be the key punch IMO for him in this fight, I see Bute as someone whose defence is a bit leaky and who is prone to getting caught with that shot. If Carl could find a home for it regularly, I'd expect him to boss the fight.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the odds anyway on this fight. I'd completely agree with Bute being made favourite but there's enough going in Carl's favour to make me think it'd be worth having a bet on him. I'd see it being a close fight going to a decision so it being in Nottingham would give me even more confidence in betting on him.

Interesting analysis, JFT. Bute for me is one of those deceptively good fighters. He looks like he presents openings that aren't really there.

And he likes cats, as well as being Scottish. But aside from those repulsive traits he's a stand up guy.
