Warrr Ioka, im a fan of that little guy since he had such a great year hopefully he will continue to win, I also believe he can become a future p4p boxer.

I think we all know which one is the true Japanese boxing thread ;)

By the way, Ioka has stated quite a few times that he struggles with making the minimumweight limit and that a bout with Yaegashi would be his final one at the weight if it were to come off. So, if Ioka wins, a fight with Joyi is unlikely :good

Well unless Joyi moves up, as well. Let's face it, he is wasting away fighting at minimumweight and yet he has the size and frame to move up at least two divisions. Hopefully he does move up and we can finally get him in some interesting fights :good

This fight was announced two days ago in Japan, and yet no mainstream boxing site has reported it yet in the US/Europe :-(

Damn, I was hoping he would defend against Denver Cello. That's one pipedream that wont happen now...

He'd definitely be in line to face the winner for what would likely be the newly created lineal title at the weight...

Awesome news! This has the potential to be a terrific match-up!:happy

    By Joe Koizumi

WBC 105-pound champion Kazuto Ioka (9-0, 6 KOs) and WBA counterpart Akira Yaegashi (15-2, 8 KOs) will meet in a sensational unification bout in Osaka, Japan, on June 20. It was announced with both champs in attendance in Osaka yesterday (Monday). Ioka said, “I wish to prove who’s the number one.” Yaegashi, making his first defense, also said, “Ioka will be a star player in Osaka, while I may take a supporting role. But the winner should take a stellar role in the ring.”

Yaegashi, 29, is a senior to Ioka, 23. Yaegashi, an aggressive hard-puncher, won the national amateur championship and then turned professional in 2005, and Ioka followed his footstep as he also gained good achievements as an amateur and turned to paid ranks, winning the WBC belt in his only seventh pro bout.

Ioka failed to become the Japanese representative in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, and turned pro in the next year. Ioka, whose amateur mark was 95-10, 64 stoppages, may move up to the heavier division in the near future, so he was eager to face his senior champ Yaegashi while he is also a 105-pounder.

Their respective managers, ex-two-class champ Hiroki Ioka, 43, and formerly WBA/WBC ruler Hideyuki Ohashi, 47, were supposed to face each other, but it didn’t unfortunately materialize while they were active. Their pupils will thus meet for unification of the 105-pound category. The promoter is Ioka Promotions in Osaka.
