Whole team had a collective hissy fit over the custom Everlast MX gloves Marcos was gonna wear. Apparently it was "some straid up boo sheed". Refused to let him use Reyes instead.

    Yadda, yadda, yadda...
Now he is gonna wear an identical pair to the initial ones, only in red, because we all know powder blue gloves increase punching power by 23,7 percent.

Floyd and Ellerbe checked Maidana's gloves the other day and Ellerbe felt that the glove was almost bare knuckle wasn't padded enough. Maidana stood up like man, changed his glove like a man, made concessions, and didn't let a minor issue stop him from making the biggest payday of his life unlike Manny Pacquiao. So now people are fighting over whether or not Floyd is a chump or Maidana is a cheat. But both are wrong, Floyd is wrong for not stipulating in the contract the ability to select the opponent's glove brand and specifications. Maidana's camp is in the wrong because they are coming off another fight where some people excused them of cheating. And though I dont think he cheated against Broner, he is one fight removed from being questioned about Ariza's napkin. His camp is constantly putting him in these questionable situations. Ya gotta be smarter than that, this is 2 fights in a row. Public perception matters.

Everyone customizes gloves, but it's HOW YOU CUSTOMIZE them. Robert Garcia said that those type of gloves are the same gloves Maidana has used in his last 4 fights where he has looked revitalized but people kinda ignored that statement. They need to add tighter glove specifications to contracts now. Either way, Maidana did what he had to do to make the fight unlike another guy who should have fought Floyd years back but made a minor request into a 5 year saga of contradictions.

That was a totally fake controversy. Why the hell would he take something in pill form before the last round? The body wouldn't absorb it before the final bell rang.

For god's sake people if those gloves were tampered with Maidana and his whole team would be suspended and possibly arrested. This is all mind game from team mayweather

Having looked at the footage the gloves definitely didn't look right. And Floyd's reaction, unless he's planning an acting career didn't look acted. I think Maidana or his camp were trying to pull a fast one here. Plaster of paris on the wraps is easy to spot, but how much scrutiny do a supposedly standard pair of gloves get if they weigh right?

Not identical or the red ones would be banned by the commission too. :patsch The gloves in question were suspiciously "custom" made and were defective, the red ones aren't. Seems like haters increase their denial 23.7% when faced with facts.

It's a big step from saying the gloves don't conform to saying they've been tampered with. It would never stand up in court.

Ok this is how it works.

The gloves rep brings a number of pairs of gloves ( i think its 5 pairs) all factory sealed to a meeting between both teams and the commission. Then they are opened in front of all parties. The gloves are then selected and signed off by the commission.

The only thing that Maidana team would have seen before hand is the colour tone , nothing more, so Maidana has done nothing wrong.

    Who watched him open them?

That's the missing piece of the jigsaw. If they were opened in front of everyone fair enough, it's difficult to see how they could have been tampered with. But from what I've seen the footage just shows an already open pair of gloves.

In reality we're all just chatting ****, because none of us knows. But it's possible and underhand tactics are not unknown to the sport.
