Could not agree more. He is an ATG, a legend in the history of this sport, he cant need the money too much and i worry that performances like this are going to encorage people to start calling for something like Pacquiao v Crawford or something.

Not in boxing it isn't. Not in any weight class except heavy, and even that's only if you're from the golden age.

 

As long as people are throwing huge paydays Pacquiao's way, I think he'll continue to fight for a little while yet.

 

I agree completely: boxers who are near the very top and who put in stellar performances when in their 40's -- such as George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Archie Moore and Bernard Hopkins -- really are the extremely rare exceptions to the rule. And try as they did, not even those legends managed to make it to the final bell against Father Time.

I think it's 60% money-motivated and 40% for love of the sport. He's obviously building up a war chest for a presidential run. Aside from his philanthropic efforts, Manny probably knows that he isn't that great of a politician whereas with boxing, it made him and he's one of the best to ever lace them up.

For the latter, Pacquiao said before the Vargas fight that he missed boxing and felt lonely. This is w/ a big family behind him, 100+ yes men, and a country that adores him.
