It's a great story. Seems like a different lifetime when he fought Alex Arthur. I think that's 11 world title fights he's been involved in now but he doesn't seem to have made a great deal of money which is scandalous really
May not have been the toughest test of his career but he boxed well and deserves this. True gent and a very decent boxer hope he got well paid and has a top top fight in his 1st defence so he can retire with plenty of bank
Genuinely pleased for someone who comes across as a really decent guy. Now Hearn needs to deliver him the good pay-day he deserves.
Great win for him and achievement now a chance to make some decent money again after his setbacks previously.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, especially after all the setbacks and money problems. He deserves a decent payday now, and i've no doubt Hearn will provide it.
good that he managed a pseudoworld level, but bad that he had to cheat to get it (low blow and blantant pinning of opponent with one arm to hit him) AND the ref stopping the fight when the OP was one his feet, dancing on his toes.
atsch Talking nonsense, The low blow was bad but he wasn't pinning Di Rocco with 1 arm they were both at the wrestling on the inside and Di Rocco was starting to grab hold and feel the pace and just before he went down for the last time in the 8th he was glancing down at his corner wanting out of there and was unsteady on his feet when he got up.
Do I smell a bit of bitterness there Billy? Ricky looked as good as he has in a long time at a weight that even he admits isn't ideal for him. Di Rocco never got a chance to get into the fight last night and that is credit to Ricky and his team for getting their tactics spot on and not giving the Italian the chance to get settled. Hopefully Ricky uses last night to get his confidence back and that he sticks to using what he does best and that is a great jab with snappy right hand after it.
Where you there last night?? Couldn't see you. Hope you got a bit of credit from Ricky.. He was good last night close to his best but against a very limited opponent. I hope He gets a couple of easy defences then a big fight
Why would Ricky still credit Billy? He has been away from him for quite a while now and it looked last night like he was getting back to his best and that the hard work that he has been doing with Tony Sims is starting to pay off. Maybe you are one of Billy's fan boys but in no way does he deserve any credit for last night. I don't want Ricky getting too much easy defences because at 33 he isn't getting any younger but 1 easy touch followed by a decent test again before a unification bout, it might also give him the chance to grow properly into the weight class too.
Ricky fought back to his own style that he learned through Billy. As for being a fan boy ad you put. Clearly not seen our convo on here before.. Im the opposite but I give credit where it is due. I'm a honest guy.. Di Rocco is poor I predicted this fight spot on. I'm a big Ricky Burns fan and glad to see him do well
You were spouting how big Di Rocco's back was and how you feared for Ricky as its not his natural weight the other week, now you are saying Di Rocco's was phish? Don't have sour g****s you gob****e you should be over the moon
yes a low blow is not nonsense, well put for destroying your own post. he clearly was. if the OP was wrestling too he should have been docked as well. 2 wrongs don't make a right. the fight turned after the low blow, not before that. he was on his toes, not unsteady except for just after getting up.
