I remember not being a fan of 'Dirty' Derry but he's grown on me on his comeback. He's given us not only one FOTY contender already this year but two!.

His fights are great value and ok the stoppage was to soon but give this guy credit he could of easily jacked it in or looked for a quick buck and got out of sport but he came to win and got the title after a hard loss in January.

Well done to Derry! :deal A warrior!.

Exactly mate, fair enough a bad stoppage but that should NOT take away from Mathews' performance. He was winning the fight IMO and was landing the harder, better, cleaner shots during the first 6 rounds.

As I said in the rbr, I felt athews' quality was being written off a bit beforehand. Made up for him well done, as you said what a warrior!!

Those cork screw uppercuts were superb. Key punch.

    British fighters have zero defence.

This is why both look busted up after 6 rounds.

No head movement from either fighter and no lateral movement.

Yeah, well pleased for Derry. One of our most exciting fighters IMO. Sure, he's not the most talented and may have chin/defence issues but he's got a ton of heart and determination.

Those uppercuts were class. After getting outjabbed in the first two rounds, he timed his counter left hands perfect and was catching Crolla every time.

Seems a nice guy, took a fair bit of punishment tonight for a guy who's always had a ton of heart but not the chin to match it, and his nose being vulnerable as well. Great win for him.

Considering he retired after the Lawton fight and plenty of people pleaded with him not to return, he has done remarkably well.

Congratulations to him and his team tonight.

I like the way he waves his man to wage war, He's got the Gatti's about him when he fights he's vulnerable but brave as!.

Amazing fight. Crolla lost and will be very dissapointed but he did show a lot of heart and I was gutted when it was stopped, he can come back and progress. Pleased for Derry, he's a warrior and has a lot of skill, that uppercut is world class.

Great match up of styles in which the boxer beat the pressure fighter. Brilliant.
