Congrats to Macarinelli, but Mbaye-Rees stunk of a fix to me...

Totally agree with the above, it was no fix. Mbaye did a similar thing in has last fight, just he was even worse in this one. I think REES should get a bit of credit, he won fair and square.

i do give rees credit, even though something looks a little dodgy. the fellas done well. first 12 rounder, first fight at lww and now he's the WBA champion of that division.

he did what he had to do with the fighter in front of him...its not his fault if anyone else had a different agenda and if mbaye wasn't coming to win.

but does anyone seriously think he would be able to compete with a real lightwelterweight out there? i don't just mean witter or hatton, but even the top domestic lww's like lynes or bami?

we'll see who he faces in his first couple of defences...no disrespect to Rees, but i do smell an overlaying plot here.

Happy to go on record now that if Rees fights Kotelnik he will get beat comfortably unless the judges are told otherwise.

The Ukranian is an underated boxer and his power whilst not that impressive against the top guys would in my opinion be too much for Rees. Even if not a stoppage, cannot see Rees winning 6 rounds against the German based fighter. If Kotelnik does step aside I think we have our answer to this ongoing debate.

    If not its

Kotelnik by ko around the 7th

He may win, but he's not that underrated.

He lost clearly to Witter and lost and drew to M'Baye.

His power may win him the belt but he's very slow.

We will have to agree to differ on that Max, not sure he is that slow but can see where you are coming from, he is for me a bit of a perfectionist and sometimes thinks too much and looks to land quality shots whilst not taking much risk, not the most exciting I agree but fairly effective at times and would certainly be against Rees.

Thought the Witter fight was a lot closer than yourself and actually agreed with the two judges who gave it just by the one round to Witter if memory serves, although he did lose that fight as you correctly say.

Thought he won the second M'Baye fight, did not see the first one.

Be very interesting to see what Fwank and Gavin do for there first defence, I am going for M'Baye on Nov 3rd Calzaghe bill if they can pay Kotelnik enough to stop him demanding the match, but could his team perhaps argue a mandatory as first defence is a bit much.

Warren's gonna feed him to Khan to keep the hype train going. 26 wins with 0 ko's and a world title, this fella is made for khan.

Yeah he does have 13 ko's boxingtalk said he had 0 ko's, should have checked boxrec instead. As long as more fighters from the Uk and Ireland get belts I don't really care.

Maybe M'Baye was just a another sub par boxer who got his chance because of Frank Warren. If he was a Brit hewould have been taken the **** out of long ago. Cant take anything away from Ree's he won the fight and will get some credibility now. Cant hide the fact that M'Baye is poor though, wow he managed a win vs Kotelink.

Warren took M`baye on to get back at Hatton as he was the mandatory for the WBA.

Look................Mbaye was never a world class fighter for starters but all this conspiracy **** is really taking the shine of Gavins achievment.........I know Gavin & I thought it was all a bit too much going up a weight & then a world title shot...............But **** me he proved myself & ALOT of other people wrong & all credit to him.......M'Baye thought he just had to show up & realised a bit to late he actually had to do something............Oh & FAISAL.......I'd really like to hear you direspect him like you did in your thread to his face ya sack of shite..............

Dont let Mbaye poor/pathetic performance take away from Rees' win. nobody knew how good Rees is and in fact we still dont know, but Mabye definately was trying for the KO late on. I dont see any fix.

What I saw was a guy who clearly wasnt motivated for the fight, who had been out fo the ring for a hell of a long time and didnt expect Rees to be as competitive as he was. Also he wasnt a very good champion to begin with. Yes ofcourse the other champion would probably KO Rees, but thats not the point, the point is nobody thought he could beat Mbaye for the WBA title and he did! FAIR AND SQUARE!
