    DINAMITA Guest

First of all, let us all say a MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez for a performance which was nothing short of supreme!

In his mid-30s, this former featherweight champion has stepped up to lightweight and knocked out arguably the top two lightweights in the world in his last two fights. Add these wins to the fact that most people believe he edged the decision over Pacquiao in their last fight, and I do genuinely think we now have bona fide joint pound-for-pound number 1s.

However, back to last night. Juan Diaz was a 25 year-old natural lightweight believed by many to be the best lightweight out there. He is younger, bigger, stronger, fresher than Juan Manuel Marquez. He came out and fought the perfect fight for the first few rounds, backing Marquez up against the ropes and unleashing fierce, accurate combinations. After 4 rounds, Diaz was undoubtedly ahead on the cards.

Though I will say, I thought the commentators were guilty of overselling Diaz's success early on. Diaz visibly wobbled Marquez one time, I think it was in round two, but Marquez fired back almost immediately. Other than that, I never thought JMM was in any danger of being crushed underfoot. The commentators were making out as if Diaz was dominant, but I felt as if Marquez was, if not comfortable exactly, at least confident that he was not losing control of the fight and that he was biding his time looking for the opportunity to break Diaz's defence.

Marquez's skill has never been in doubt, but last night by the mid-rounds he was magnificent. His combinations, in particular his use of the uppercut, his lateral movement, his stamina and workrate levels, his handspeed, his resilience and determination, all of Dinamita's best attributes came to the fore to allow him to wear down his younger, stronger opponent, and when the end came, it was spectacular.

The first knockdown was similar to the first knockdown of Margarito by Mosley, some wicked headshots staggered Diaz and he spun to the floor, but did not look out of it yet. But you knew that Marquez, the consummate pro and all-round class act, would not let the moment pass. Superb accurate flurry, picture perfect uppercut finisher, and as soon as Diaz hit the floor the referee called it off.

For a former featherweight champ in his mid-30s, to become the first man to knock out as good and as strong a lightweight as the Baby Bull only months after becoming the frst man to knock out Joel Casamayor, it really is some achievement.

I now rank Dinamita joint p4p#1 and among the top 100 OAT. Last night was his career best win IMO. He now truly deserves to be rated as an equal alongside the greatest Mexicans of his generation, Barrera, Morales and Lopez.

    What next?

With Pacquiao tied up until Autumn with the superfight with Ricky Hatton, I'd like to see Marquez stay active and fight in the summer. A clash with the winner of Amir Kkan-Marco Antonio Barrera is being spoken of, and while I think that would be a relatively easy win for Juan Manuel, I don't know if it's the most exciting match-up out there.

Edwin Valero would make for an exciting clash and again a relatively comfortable win for JMM, but I'd like to see a fight with Nate Campbell at junior-welter. If JMM is going to fight Pacquiao again it is most likely going to be at 140, so it would be good for Juan to get some experience of that weight, and I think Campbell would provide him with a good test. Other good opponents would be Joan Guzman or even Timothy Bradley at 140, as that would allow JMM to become the first four-weight world champion. There are some really good options out there for him.

Congratulations again on a superb performance Dinamita, you are truly one of the greatest of our era!!

Oh shut up you tedious fart. There's nothing "joint" about it.

Pac loses to Marquez then defeats two walking punchbags.
Marquez beats pac then stops 2 of the 3 best lightweights in the world.

And a long winded 3 page secondary school english essay wont change a thing about it :hi:

Walking punching bags? Christ you are one thick individual. There is no point in even trying to reason with you.

Joint number one is something of a cop out :)

I scored the Pacquiao fight in favour of Marquez and his two wins since then were against superior opposition to Pacquiao's two wins IMO.

So I have JMM number one, at least pending Pacquiao v Hatton. A clear win there would make Pacquiao number one.

no hate but....get that bull**** outta here man

JMM is indeed a monster, but his resume pails in comparison to Pacs....plus the books say Pac beat him (though i think he was robbed the 1st time out)

JMM is doing great, and Pac's on his way out the game.....just wait, and he'll be the consensus P4P King, it'll happen, i promise you

    Marquez was fantastic last night.

I would love to see him fight Valero. It would be a genuine 'Event' fight and I'd lke to see the look on the Valero nuthuggers faces' when Marquez blows him away inside five rounds.

However, I think he deserves a 'keep busy' fight next. The winner of Khan-Barrera would be perfect, routine title defence. Khan would pose some problems with his speed, but his power is overrated and I don't believe he can hurt Marquez.

On the other hand, Marquez, who WILL land on Khan (easily) can take Khan out with any punch he chooses. It would still be a relatively big fight as Khan is hyped so much in the UK (a joke I know) and Marquez could basically chill for a bit and prepare for his next 'proper' fight. I'm not assuming Khan beats Barrera by the way, but I don't think Marquez would have a particularly hard night with this version of Barrera either.

So, Nate Campbell at 140 (if he has a belt of some description by then) or the winner of Holt-Bradley. Depending on how Marquez adjusts to the weight (let's assume he ahs no problems to support my predictions) then Marquez stops Holt or decisions Bradley.

But honestly, if Valero can beat Pitalua, however bad/good he looks doing it, stick him in with Marquez. Let's see how far his wild swinging (with IMO overrated power does him) get hims. Let's see him try the much-vaunted (by nuthuggers) boxing skills he 'demonstrates in sparring' gets him.

Let's see how far taking Marquez's uppercut gets him? A few feet down to the ground I suspect.

Considering that P4P rankings are personal and subjective, why would what 'the books' say be given any weight in them?

If Pac beats Hatton they should rematch at 140.

I thought Marquez won the last fight so i definately want to see it agan!

Pac beating Hatton is no formality though.

becuzz when most people refer to "the best fighter P4P", "the P4P King", etc, they go by "The Ring's" #1 P4P.....

and it's also obvious that he's trying to persuade people into thinking he should be the consensus P4P #1 (or joint in this case) and not just saying "MM is his personal P4P #1....

not to mention the fact that boxing has Judges for a reason, i'm not gonna sit back and say "Zab Judah beat Floyd Mayweather"...becuzz he didn't, even if i did beleive that, all that matters are what the judges say, only time most people would consider not going by the books is when it's a blatent consensus robbery, and that's not what either fight was, or at the very least not the 2nd one
