I agree to a large extent... a lot of the hatred stems from the polarizing personality of the Eubanks as well as the attitude of their fans. Eubank Jr. is no fraud but he was definitely not as good as many thought.
Fair enough I suppose, to a degree. When you talk as much as they do, its going to create a volitile reaction when you lose. I still disagree though with calling him a fraud. I do get the its how he lost not that he lost... but again I think this or something similar happens to most of the middleweights that would have been in there with Groves tonight. I too am not optimistic about his IQ or his true ability to improve but I hope he can. An improved Eubank is a nice addition at middleweight.
I agree there's no shame in losing to Groves. He should have been the underdog imo. I think most people hating on him are for two reasons. 1) His over-confidence. 2) A lot of people seem to think Groves is a bit of a soft touch and expected Eubank Jr to walk through him (like he said he would). If you be that cocky, this is how people react when you don't live up to it. I agree though that Groves beats almost any MW (even gives GGG hell much like Jacobs did) and maybe any SMW too.
Someone could just as easily say that once Eubank went into second gear, bjs starting having problems. So excuses aside, at the end of the day the fact remains that Saunders scrapped a SD against a green Eubank... Saunders... who has some of the best skills in the division and is top 3. Yet magically a stronger, more experienced Eubank is going to get 'schooled' back at middleweight. I agree him targeting Traux is not good imo. He should be looking to get back to middleweight and work his way back into the mix. But lets not pretend he wasnt obviously vying for a rematch with Groves. He clearly said after Traux he hopes that could set him up a rematch. Which is also a bad move. Imo Groves beats him 10 out of 10.
I hope he goes back to 160 and then we can see him be befuddled without the excuse of being a smaller man. As for him apparently finding a second gear against BJS, that would be a remarkable coincidence that he manages to turn it on down the stretch against a fairly poor conditioned fighter who would show us that he fades at the business end of a fight numerous times afterwards. Canelo, GGG, Jacobs and Saunders are all far too much for CEJ IMHO. I'd also pick Murata, Charlo and prob Dev to get the W over him. He's a top 10 guy but that's it. Other than Truax he isn't picking up a title at 168 so he might just for that just to have a claim of holding a 'legit' world title before cashing out with a money fight over shot and previously overhyped Degale.
Canelo and G are legit p4p fighters. Saunders and Jacobs are top tier middleweights. And none but Golovkin would downright dominate CEJ. So because Cej loses to them in competetive fights (besides G I believe he gives them all a good scrap) hes a fraud? Thats my point. I dont understand this venom behind this all or nothing mentality regarding Jr. So if hes not top tier... hes a fraud? If hes not top tier... hes ****? Why cant he just be a solid fighter that will most likely come up short against the best? If Jr is a fraud or **** than 99% of all pro boxers are as well (which is obviously bs) You seem to think I believe Eubank is a tier one class fighter. I dont. My point is that people are going overboard over this loss and their general level of critism towards jr in general. So hes a mid tier fighter. So what? he wont be getting schooled at middleweight (in single rounds, yes... over the whole fight, I dont see it happening) and will be giving good account for himself if he goes back there and will be providing fun fights. If he stays at 168 i expect him to have more nights like tonight.
I don't know. I don't think Groves is elite. He did well but I think Eubank played perfectly into Groves style. A better fighter would have timed Eubank and knocked him out in my opinion. Canelo would absolutely spank Eubank jr. I wouldn't put it past Canelo to finish the job that Groves couldn't. Groves does hit much harder than Canelo but Canelo perfectly times and lands the counter enough times to put Eubank out.
Very few were giving Groves any chance of winning. I thought Groves had an edge, but did not think the fight would be that easy for him! No wonder Eubanks ran Like Hell from Golovkin!
Come on man! Originally I thought you were a Brit. Over here, we get behind our fighters no matter what and if they turn out not to be as good as we thought then fair does. It's disappointing but we will still support them. You are acting like an American, who tend to disown the fighters they had previously hyped and pretend they knew the fighter was no good all along. However, bearing in mind that according to your profile, you're actually a Kiwi, I have no idea what the protocol is over there!!!
No wonder Eubank sr never found a pen to sign to fight GGG. He knew it was better to just lose the pen.
Never seen someone jump ship so quick, number 1 Eubank fan before last night. Won't embarrass you with some of the threads and predictions you made about cej you win some you lose some.
Congrats to Groves. Eubank is good but i always found him to be a bit of style over substance. Has the aggresive look in his face, pulls the poses and talks the talk, looks in great shape and can throws alot of punches that will overwelm you if you let it. But if you are a good enough Boxer with a good jab and good timing and Groves is all of those things. A good Boxer beats a good brawler or pressure fighter, a great pressure fighter beats a good Boxer. Eubanks is good but not great. Once you wash away the swagger and the talk and the little things he does to try emulate his dad he works of just a basic set of skills.
