there shouldn't be a next time. gomez hasn't been capable of competing at this level for a couple of years.

Nice stoppage, Gomez tried but there's nothing there anymore.

Ricky looked good tonight but don't get too carried away, Gomez hit him with a lovely uppercut in the forth but the man just couldn't follow it up. Right there the fight was won for Burns. He should go in with someone who can fight a 12 round fight now

As for the ref, he was poor and that's putting it mildly. If he didn't like the holding from Burns then he should have broke them more, Leaving them infighting suited Gomez, Taking a point was a ****ing joke cause Gomez was burying his head into Burns chest leaving him no option to hold around the head.

well done ricky burns. Gomez knows he doesn't have it anymore. He went out proudly as a warrior with all his friends and family there. Been involved in gomez last outing was a privelage. We knew from the second he wasn't capable of replicating what he had done in the gym but he seemed to come into the fight a little. Well done ricky and billy nelson.

A real shame for Gomez. No doubt he would have have won really quick any where near his prime. Hopefully he has a couple easy fights to get him to 50 and then a nice rest from the sport. Great to see Jeff on TV and well done to Burns.

Shame that Gomez hasn't got it anymore, but at least he went out with pride. I've had a lot of pleasure watching his career - his win over Arthur was the most I've ever cheered during a fight, so I'll be sorry to see him go.

On a side note, I was pissing myself last night when Jeff grabbed the sombrero back off that lad in the crowd - the kid looked like he was shitting himself...

nice one all, cheers billy. We're not in it for the money. I was there out of love for the sport and respect for mike and kevin. It was a brilliant occasion and the hype before and post fight good feeling is what this sport is all about. I got the sombrero back but then after the fight all three went missing. And they called us the pikeys ha ha . . . We've got big plans for the future.

lol I wandered if anyone else would notice Jeff grab the sombrero back! I was getting nearly as excited at that than when I was watching the fight lol!

Think Burns looked good lastnight myself, good luck to him.

Also like everyone else sad that Gomez is coming to the end (I hope he does have 2 more 4 or 6 rounders to make it 50 and have a farewell fight), he's had a great career, all the best to him. Theres not any people that have had their life story made into a film is there!

Unlucky Jeff, sure it was a great experiance though.

one hundred per cent mike will retire. 50 fights means nothing. He's realised that already. No need to carry on to fifty and get false hopes of another title fight. He's done enough to be proud of.
