I did not see the fight, but I am surprised by the result. Did Hopkins hurt Pavlik and make him gun shy? Was Hopkins that good, or was Pavlik that bad?
What the hell happened in there? After the 1st 30 seconds of the fight, I knew something was wrong will Pavlik. He wasn't even trying to throw a jab. Heres what Kelly said about the mess... "I just couldnt get off, I dont know why. It wasnt because of Bernards slickness. There was just something wrong with me tonight. I couldnt throw double jabs and I couldnt do things that I normally can do in the ring. "Im going to go back to the drawing board. It just wasnt mine tonight. Im going back to 160 where Im more comfortable." So what do you make of that? Did he freeze up in there? He did start to settle down mid-fight, but by then, Hopkins was in full flight, no stopping him. Hop said it was his best performanve ever...EVER. And he had to pick this fight against Pavlik to really bust out bigtime. He did a hell of a job last night. Can't wait to see him beat RJJ after Jr. takes care of Joe C. in November. This loss really hurts.:tired
Pavlik is still a force at 160. He was just in the ring with a legend last night. I thought he was going down a few times but he hung in there. I don't think he lost any respect.
glad it hurts mate, people like you are the reason i wanted pavlik to lose, theres no wonder pavlik could not get off with people like you hanging from his nuts all the time. i actually like pavlik hes a very nice guy and i want him to clean 160, but i am just glad that the pavlik fans have been brought back down to earth and i hope you finally realise that calzaghe is the best 160-175 end of but hey, respect for acting this way and taking it so well, i know you was a big pavlik fan but dont worry pavlik is still the best at 160 IMO and he will be back
Calzaghe could have taken the Pavlik fight and got the glory if he beat him, but he chose to play it safe. Roy Jones has a say in wheather Calzaghe is the best and we'll find out in November.
All hail Bernard Hopkins. That was a masterful performance, and takes away all of the junk BHop had to put up with in the Taylor bouts, as well as the crap he dealt with from HBO, DiBella and the rest for years. Congrats, BHop!
Yup . . . got to give . . . the old guy props. A perfect fight plan and perfect execution. I lost on that fight . . . I picked Pavlik by UD.
Same here, and I was very much ok with being wrong. I like both guys, but Bernard really 'needed' this win, and he sure got it. Huge props for the master, the power of clean living and strong will. :good:good:good
Yeah, he'll damage Rubio with no problem. So now all we have to look forward to is a mega-middlewt showdown with Abraham. And that won't happen 'til next summer, probably. And should he take care of business against AA, we can look forward to Paul Williams moving up to 160. ((((((((((KP shall RETURN)))))))))) :!: BTW...hows Youngstown taking the whole ordeal?
Ah, Kelly can still go on strongly also I think Hopkins exposed his defensive flaws quite a bit making it easier for his future opponents using them. And these flaws would be his downfall against Abraham. Beside him I think he beats everybody at 160/168 - even Kessler, while Kessler would beat Abraham.
