I honestly don't think there was a single intentional butt in the whole fight. However, even if there was, you fight to what the ref allows. It's irrelevant anyway, Kessler couldn't catch him all night long.
Ward is a fantastic boxer, you have to be to win an olympic gold. His focus was fantastic for the whole fight, he had a gameplan and stuck to it from start to finish. Excellent stamina and fluidity combined with strength on the inside, outstanding athlete and he has to be the favourite from here to win it. I think Dirrell is a similar fighter but lacks the mental focus and toughness that Ward obviously has, he is a better puncher than Ward for what that's worth.
Agree on everything. If I read another ****ing post (esp in the general forum) about how Ward cheated to win I will scream. The Kesslersexuals are going nuts
Ouch....I bet that was hard to say mate :yep I'm spewing as well mate but looks like we need to bow down and pay homage to the new WBA SMW King. :bowdown
I'm gutted, another of my favourite fighters lost. There must have been more cheating, head butting, elbows, biting, and kicking going on than in the Geale/Mandy fight. Another ****en robbery for sure.:hey Am I a sore loser, **** yeh.:| Well done Ward.:good BTW, I spotted young Geale at the Pearl Jam concert last night.
I just watched the fight, Kessler looked very slow and awkward for the first couple rounds, Ward looked sharp and accurate. Kessler started to improve by round 4, Ward still looked better. Round 5 and 6 Kessler looked quite good and close to his past best. Ward took it just fine and also looked good, but no better during these rounds, IMO. After 6 Kessler got worse because of the cuts, Ward still looked good. The rest of the fight went similar, but Kessler was clearly bothered by the cuts, mentally and physically, and Ward was as sharp at round 11 as he was in the first. I guess the few things which may have screwed it for Kessler, is that he may have underrated Ward. He also started way too slow and Ward was on the move from the very first bell. The head clashes also gave him big problems, I didn't see as many as have been bandied around, but there were certainly 2 which could have been intentional. If not intentional, Ward didn't seem to be trying to avoid leading with his head. Kessler did look very flat for much of the fight to me, whether that was to do with him just being frustrated by Wards speed/skill, or by him just being flat for other unknown reasons is anyones guess. Obviously in later rounds he was just deteriorating because of the damage caused by Ward. In any case, Ward did the job and did it well. :good
The boxing world know knows who Andre Ward is & that is a good thing. He's good for boxing. The man has all the talent in the world. Props to Kessler who admits the better man won on the night unlike his supporters who are claiming Ward cheated. Typical of one eyed fans these days.
Only seen bits of the fight and sill unsure if Kessler had a bad night or if Ward made him have a bad night, props to him for making no excuses though and I think this is good for the Super 6 as it now reshuffles many of the predictions. Expected Kessler's power to play more of a role, but it looks like he just could not get the shots off
Yeah, I just watched rounds 1-8 on the general foum, and to be honest, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected - while Ward was definitely winning the fight, he wasn't destroying Kessler. I can't see why so many are claiming it was a more dominating victory over Kessler than Calzaghe's was.
