Years ago I remember reading an article on Billy Conn, could have been Ring Magazine, I don't remember. It was about how he used to spar with his housecat to quicken his reflexes. Cat on the counter, Billy out front, going for touch pounts, batting at feints, trying to counter and score. I've tried this with my cats and wound up with more than a few scratches.

I doubt it had a lot to do with his boxing skill but it was a neat story and anyway you slice it, it couldn't have hurt his quickness. Akin to the slap hand games of our youth.

Anyone remember this article or hear this anecdote?

I thought this was about a potential match up between Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams and Conn, and was waiting for Choklab to weigh in telling us how Conn outclasses Williams.

Conn pretty much outclassed everyone he fought, with a couple of noted exceptions. Joe Louis for one....and perhaps maybe his house cat. :)

Big Cat and him would have been a good fight.

Everybody outclassed Williams. You know that.
