I dunno = cant understand it..begrudgery small mindedness .....negative knocking of the guy etc etc It was the same with CEJ up to 1-2 years ago.
I think people have given their reasons for slating him and they're all quite justified. He effectively just drew against someone very very poor after calling himself the most improved fighter in the country, should he not get negative comments for that?
The fact some of you are comparing Conor Benn to Eubank jr is absolutely embarrassing! you'd think people posting on a boxing forum would have some sort of boxing knowledge. Eubank jr wants to fight to come out his dads shadow. Yes, he didn't look fantastic at first, totally agree, but he had boxing background (albiet limited) from amateur experience over in the states, he's dedicated himself to the sport he's trained at some of the best gyms in the world and is now in a position where he's in a HUGE fight for a world title. He had a close fight with an olympic fighter who is now a world champion in Saunders and did not look out of place for the majority of that fight. Conor, who is fighting because of his dads name and the fame that comes with it. He had 10 fights in Australia and then came here to turn pro and reap the money. Take a look at his social media, he screams arrogance. Claiming he's a different cloth and flashing his rolex, when their kids dedicating their entire life to this sport to fight and change their lives, but they don't get the oppurtunity because their name isn't Benn. For me personally I was excited by Conor at the start, but as soon as the real Conor Benn started showing, the rich boy persona came out and I looked forward to what happened Wednesday. His performance against Luke Keleher was one of the worst i've ever seen amauter or pro. he was then fed KOs and given this ridiculous hype by Matchroom and Sky (does anyone think Brook tweeted that off his own back?) If I was his handlers, i'd take him out for a couple of years and teach him boxing before he's back on tv.
Think people being a bit harsh on Benn. Everyone including himself has said time and again he,s a work in progress. When the going got tough he stayed in their and fought back...could understand the critiscm if he just gave up. But the guy gave it his all. Maybe he's not gonna be the best. But at least he,s trying in there. Still think he,s gonna surprise a few people...biggest problem looks to be his nerves. Just like the dad he,s quite an insecure fella...Nigel used it to his advantage. Conors not quite learned that yet...maybe he never will but he's there to have a go anyway. Every fight I ve seen him ins been entertaining enough...the other night was a great fight to watch. People going on about the name. He' no really got an option if he wants to box...he will get opportunities off the back of his name. Who,s never been helped in life by something or other. Who got a job through their mate or maybe your dad or that. You take these opportunities in life. I can see him developing well if he can get the nerves/anxiousness under control. These things can cause you to have performances like the other night...the thing is not many are able to overcome it. But tbf the big bills etc are still new to him. He just needs to settle. The French kid looked surprisingly decent. Looked big and solid for the weight.
So is that why he mimics his old man's style (including all the stupid preening and posing) in the ring?
It's nothing personal or about his family name, he just simply isn't very good. I also find his interviews cringe worthy. He would have had more respect (and realised boxing maybe wasn't for him) if he had come up through the amateur ranks but they have tried to fast track him to stardom and he deserves to be ridiculed. As others have said he is taking the place of a real boxer who has learnt his trade. A draw was the correct result for this fight.
That's the Eubank brand, with Snr constantly lurking in his shadow and Ronnie Davis the mysterious old hand. Works when he's winning - look like an utter buch of C's when he's not.
Not sure it’s anxiety mate, it seems like pure ego to me. He made a decision pre fight that he was going to be the first person to stop the French lad, and came out swinging. He seriously needs to reign himself in and box instead of fighting. He looks like a lost lad with no boxing identity to me. He fights differently each time. One thing is for sure, if he keeps copping huge shots like that, his career will be very short cos he’s ramping up that mileage being in wars like that with mediocre opponents.
Yeah agree its a bit of ego as well. He,s not settling cause he doesn't have the experience for it. Most of us been to the gym the first night...we all think we,re mike Tyson. But you soon realize your not and then you start settling down a bit. Not comparing him to a first night amateur...but a few pretty exciting performances has enhanced the ego. On top of that he,s too eager to prove he's just like the old man. Is where the anxiousness is coming into it that plus he appears quite an insecure lad. Actually think the other night will do him the world of good. No better way to learn. Although it does point to his ceiling not being great. I actually think he,s got promise...but he needs to iron out a few massive things...not all can do it. One thing about the boxing everyone was saying he needs to box him. But the thing is...I m not sure Benn will ever to be able to outbox many. Needs to make adjustments but no sure outboxing people will ever suit him. He is similar to the old man in that respect...neither we,re great boxers. The dad was a great fighter tho. But I m pretty sure all the thing leveled at Benn the other night...have been leveled at the old man at one point before. He was just better at doing what conors trying to do.
His dad had pedigree though, he was an undefeated army champion, and won 40 amateur fights. He was also a notorious street fighter and underworld enforcer. There was no doubt he was raw on skill but he was a lunatic. He beat fighters before they got in the ring.
Yeah big fan of Nigel. There's no argument hes' better than Connor. His style was effective terrific at what he done but it did lead to him getting into situations he should,t have been getting into. He chucked boxing out the window a lot of the time and just had it most of the time recklessly. The sons trying to do the same with missing ingredients. What Nigel had was power. Big power. A massive heart. Intesity. Will to win. Terrific fitness. Boxing skills were,nt one of them special attributes. Don't get me wrong you don't become a world champion without having half decent boxing skills. But he wasn't a world class boxer. The son looks like his power will develop. He' still a boy. We know he doesnt have the pedigree of the dad. He is a novice. Heart looks decent. Fitness looks not bad. Will to win decent. Intensity decent. Boxing skills below par atm. He's like a very poor version of the dad without the unbelievable intensity or even fighting similar to the old mans style without the tools. I don't think you can learn what Nigel had in terms of intensity. Their both insecure Benn looks like he had a massive inferiority complex which pushed him on. Connor hasn,t learned to use it in that way...like most of the youth today he's in awe of people better than him. Nigel used it to show them he wasn't inferior. He kind of fought his complex. Connors accepting his. Totally off tangent post mate...started typing got carried away. But settling down to box I suspect...would be a less effective style for the son. Needs to improve his attributes. Learn to set traps. Learn to change the pace. Hopefully his power gets better as he develops. But no sure he,ll ever be out jabbing people to victory. The styles not the problem its the weaknesses of attributes. He doesn' have the dads attributes but not many did tbf.
