Eubank Jr. is especially bad because he clearly has talent, and was a decent boxer who fought at the highest level for a moment. He could have kept challenging himself and made for a good career, but he packed it all in after one loss. It´s a real shame really.
Like with most modern boxers, I always thought Eubank just needed more time in the ring and a better trainer (one that'll bring out his aggression). He just wasn't interested in the graft of boxing or the finesse and development he could've attained. Millions in exchange for legacy. I guess who wouldn't? I'd like to think that I wouldn't or that I'd at least try to balance it out more - legacy-money but maybe it doesn't work that way. What could've been aye
I’ve always thought at least Eubank Jnr knows he is a douche bag but Benn has no self awareness which makes him worse.
Have a feeling Jnr is gonna make this fight harder for himself than actually is, possibly winning controversially, leading then nicely into a rematch, for those who profit...
That was so funny I was genuinely laughing out loud. Loved it how Piers is gazing at Conor then it cuts off and all you hear is "The **** you looking at?" Conor is so fake. The thing is, everyone can see right through it.
Benn is the James Cordon of boxing: an insufferable twat who seems completely in the dark about his own awful personality and the general hatred towards him.
For many of us Brits, Eubank has never been liked much. He was incredibly arrogant when he was younger, and tried too hard to be like his father. Conor Benn has the exact same problem. He grew up comfortably due to his father's success, but listening to him you'd think he'd had it tough like his father had as a kid. From a boxing perspective, early on Eubank had many flaws: barely threw a jab, terrible footwork, too much admiring his own work and prancing around in the ring (like his dad used to), little nuance in anything he did (just loaded up on combinations), and a questionable gas tank. This, mixed with him and his father's lack of awareness over these many faults turned many people off Jr. Early doors, there was talk of Eubank fighting Ward and GGG, which never materialised, and if I remember right, Eubank was offered GGG, but lost his nerve. Later in his career, Eubank, like many other fighters, went down the path of least resistance in choice of opposition. He can draw a decent crowd due to his name, so he took the easy route instead of challenging himself. Similar to Amir Khan after the Danny Garcia fight: fight low risk opposition until you get the chance to fight a known name for decent money. Essentially, these guys are celebrity boxers. They are known to casuals so they can draw a crowd and make decent money, but they protect their marketability by taking low risk fights until they can cash out getting beat up by a fighter who takes their career seriously. Basically, Eubank didn't get off to a good start with many British fight fans, and his career choices over the years did little to endear himself to them. To be fair to Eubank, it seems he has matured in more recent years and he seems more decent. He also comes across as quite articulate and thoughtful. This could be because even a troglodyte would seem articulate and human compared to Conor Benn. However, I think stepping out from his father's shadow may have also played a part in this. Unfortunately, this has played a part in him and his father currently not speaking, but it is good to see Jr being his own man for a change.
