Aldo is a long reigning champion, unbeaten in 10 years, one of the best the UFC has to offer, yet he charged in face first, chin the air like an uncordinated novice and got KO'd by a tap in a way you would expect an untrained person with no punch resistance to react. The level of MMA of skill, talent and athleticism in MMA is very, very poor. It's still little more than glorified back alley bum fighting.

Aldo was beat before the fight even started, you could see from his face; I wouldn't say that his performance was indicative of any of previous fights, nor as an indicator of ability or skill of MMA fighters in general.

How do you define "very, very poor"? Because i'd think a lot of top MMA fighters credentials in amateur sports would suggest otherwise

I define very, very poor by what I see with my own eyes. MMA is a low level sport.

I never rated that aldo character and I was proved right. Mcgregor should move to lightweight as ufc bantam is a joke.

Didn't Aldo just have a 14 month layoff? If so, don't know why people aren't bringing that up. Its not easy shaking rust off immediately, especially for an elite opponent and fight. He needs to get back in the groove, his timing, striking, etc is off and rightfully should be, and obviously didn't respect Conners power it sounds like. This wasn't like Rhonda getting dominated and than ko'd, it was flash KO. Aldo needs to have 1-2 other fights and wins, shake the rust off and get a rematch. Anyone can get caught, so really the fight never even really started, but we now do know Conner has the power to quickly dispose of aldo.

Proved right? LOL cause he got caught after a long layloff? It now erases his 18 or whatever fight win streak and p4p ranking?:patsch

That was a precision shot by McGregor, perfect placement, right across the side of the jaw. Most guys jumping in face first would get dropped by that shot. His chin wasn't tucked or anything. A boxer would have ducked after the right hand was thrown, and looked to counter. Aldo rushed in, throwing wild. His right cross didn't even come close.

If Rockhold didn't have a two round gas tank he would have ended Weidman sooner.

Remind me again what happened to Cain in his last fight, which coincidentally be his first fight within the new stricter anti doping controls the UFC have implemented?

Coming to think of it, how many dominant UFC champions have been dethroned since these stricter anti doping controls have come in????

Because according MMA logic you don't need to have timing or sharpness to bump & grind on the floor with another man

In the moment, in real-time it just seemed like a knockdown and there was that sitting-up motion from Aldo before the first hammer strike landed. It seemed like just a hard knockdown but not that he was necessarily out cold, since it was just the one punch, followed by him landing his own, and then followed by him rolling onto his back and immediately trying but failing (due to McGregor's fist waiting for him) to sit up. It just didn't have the look of an "out cold" type knockout watching it live.

...going back and seeing the replay in motion you can tell his eyes were glazed even during that initial sit-up, and once he got hit by that first hammer strike he was totally limp, body stretched out flat, and he was fully out cold for the next one before McCarthy got in there.
