i know pretty much nothing about the UFC, but seeing as McGregor is everywhere and is everything about the UFC right now (or so it seems), is he actually that good or is it hype like Anthony Joshua who goes on a run of knocking people out and blown out of proportion, very curious to know

He is always in pretty entertaining fights, and his striking is pretty decent. He has one spectacular 13 second win over one the best p4p fighters of the last decade.

But it's his trash talking that has created all the hype, and why everyone is talking about him.

I like watching him fight....but I find him extremely immature, and unfunny.

To answer your question...he is way over rated at the moment. And is being gifted titles shots at higher weights, even though he hasn't defended his own title once.

I think the UFC know he is limited and are milking him for all they can, as quickly as they can....he is making them a lot of money.

If he beats Alvarez, and cleans out the LW division. Then we can reassess how good he is. But as he already lost against a LW journeyman in Nate Diaz and struggled in the rematch...it seems unlikely.

I agree with most of this.

However i would say Diaz is more of a welter these days than a LW......... although still a journeyman

I think he's not just hype. That knockout of a long reigning champion in Jose Aldo in a few seconds proved as much. Anyone who can perform that well in that big a fight can't be hype imo

Fair enough....it will be interesting to see if he goes back to LW or not. He said he could have made the LW for the rematch, and thats the weight he has pretty much fought at all his career.

The only reason the first Conor fight was made at WW was because Diaz was partying in Cabu two weeks before he was offered the fight, and was too late to make the LW limit.

I guess we shall see when he makes his next move. A rubber match with Conor would be at LW I reckon.

Yes you cant argue with that win....Aldo is the best FW in MMA history...I would like to see a rematch though, because we really didnt learn alot from that fight. As an MMA fan i was pretty disappointed it was over so quickly, as I was really looking forward to seeing a great fight.

He is definitely not only hype...he has good striking skills as well. Very accurate, with decent power....but i think he has received so much attention from being outspoken that his ability has definitely become over rated.

He isn't as good as he seems. His lack of good takedown defense and ability to defend a sub is a big problem. His knockout power though is something that shouldn't be written off though.

He's a solid, entertaining fighter but not anywhere near as good as the UFC hype machine makes him out to be. He was effective when he used IVs to drain 25-30 pounds to make 145 where he had a huge size, punching power and reach advantage. He was matched very carefully coming up being kept away from wrestlers but credit to him he was able to catch Aldo cold early when gifted an opportunity at the FW title. His legitimacy basically hinges off that fight. Since then he's pretty much erased any goodwill he gained from the Aldo win by blatantly running out of the division to avoid Frankie Edgar (who he ducked a couple times before he won the title) and losing a perceived cherrypicked fight with a middle-of-the road Nate Diaz. It was so cringeworthy when all the horde of casual fanboys came on here excusing that loss saying he went up two weight classes, as if Mcgregor was a natural FW and Diaz was a natural 170 . The UFC loses credibility allowing this clown to freeze up 2 good divisions. We'll see what he can do at 155, I believe his lack of defense, poor cardio, weak ground game, and porous defense will be exposed if he's matched vs the best at that weight.
