Benn landed some very body shots in that round.

Benn looked good for first 90 seconds or so, then Algieri started working him out a bit and fired some shots back, making Benn a bit more wary. I'm sure he stunned him with a left hook briefly.

 

Round 1: Benn 10-9

Benn threw a lot of body shots, feinted quite a bit. Algieri landed a left hook but nothing else notable.

 

Left hook for Algieri is wide open. He’d have found it 5 years ago.

 

**** sake, the missus hasn't wanted anything all night then as soon as the Benn fight starts she wants something. I've missed first and almost second.

Pace being set by Benn, he’s a lot quicker than Algieri who is clearly past it.

With about 30 seconds left Algieri is sent flying to the canvas by a left hook that landed behind his head. He lost his balance and complained about the lockdown.

Looked like a legit shot but Algieri lost his balance which exaggerated the fall.

 

I'll give Benn credit. He does find the body well. He wastes far too many punches up top though, trying to land big shots but Algieri is taking most on the gloves.

He's good when throwing combos as he has good handspeed.

 

The ring looks unusually large tonight. DAZN keep switching the camera angles every second.

Benn’s shorts are pissing me off too.

Benn 29-27

Benn isn’t using his jab, just throwing bombs / combinations. It works well against faded, slow fighters like Formella who are limited, but when he steps up it’ll be a problem for him.

I gave Algieri the round for a good body shot he landed, nothing in the round though.

 

I'm absolutely convinced Benn can't take a shot. Even the few that land from Algieri seem to have a brief effect on how his head turns or how he reacts.

Algieri is just using his experience here at the moment, without being any sort of real threat...his timing is a bit off also. Hearn special.
