Anyone see the "sparring" video? MacGregor is saying how he "folded up" the Mountain. He may just have been trolling, but some people are taking him seriously. Mountain actually showed some surprisingly quick moves for a 400 pounder. He looked like he could have brought Conor down, or quite possibly killed him, anytime he wanted, and was just goofing with him. Anyone think Conor would actually win?
People are re****ed. He could never win. Mountain picks him and does whatever he wants with him. Kills him, ****s him, etc.
The man weighs 200 plus pounds more than Conor, is one of the strongest men on the planet, is not unathletic, and even though he was goofing about in the video he looks like he isn't totally clueless......he literally kills that bobble headed stick boy. There is a point where size, strength and overall physicality begins to nullify superior technique....the disparity here is overwhelming.
Im shocked to see how many people think Hafthor would win. Im not a fan of MMA at all, but its obvious that Connor would win. Hafthor picks heavy things up for a living, Connor fights for a living. No comparison.
Did you watch the vid? Mountain was catching Connor's kicks and headlocking him. Locked to me a lot more like he was letting Connor go then, as opposed to Connor breaking free. All he really had to do was push Connor back at that point, he'd have him on the ground and game over. 14 inches and 225 pound advantage on an athletic man is probably too great a hurdle to overcome, regardless of Connors pedigree.
Yes i did watch the video, it doesnt prove anything. He can catch his kicks and headlock him all he wants, they are clearly messing around and playfighting. Fighting (playing really) at this pace suits Hafthor, 30 seconds of street fighting and his heart would be beating out of his chest. Have you seen the video of Hafthor boxing? For a man of his size, his punches are weaker than ****.
take some judo....or some BJJ....it's not all that rare for a novice with a large size and strength advantage to completely hang with much higher level guys who are smaller simply because they have more physicality. There's a reason that instructors might admit that a certain number of pounds, or having a lot of length equates to an entire belt or more in skill. Besides...in a non sanctioned, no rules, outside of the cage encounter, conor gets torn apart. He's more skilled and trained obviously, but a 175 pound man hitting a 400 pound man regardless of skill....may not be enough to even bother the much bigger, stronger and harder man, and once he has a hold of that much much smaller, much much much weaker man its literally over. In a cage with rules, Conor could pot shot and keep distance through movement and be successful, but i wouldn't bet on it lasting forever.
I played rugby in my younger days and we used wrestling as a part of our conditioning in pre season. There was a guy on our team that we called monster (you can guess how big he was) who was very good at rugby.Everytime he wrestled he would get tore apart by people much much lighter and much weaker, he just did not have the mindset that the others had. He would lose his his heart and others would have that fire. Watch Hafthor box on youtube, he throws punches like a kitten, turns his head right around because he doesnt like to get hit in his face, and then flops on the floor in a panting mess. Its all good lifting cars and pulling lorries, but having a whack on the chin is a whole different ball game.
One anectdotal example, will have the same or more on the opposite end of the spectrum. I've seen enough "trained" fellows get absolutely tooled to know that to be true. Yes, mentality counts for a lot. We'll agree on that. If thor has any sense of himself, *****, courage, mean streak, agressiveness, killer instinct, heart, fighting spirit, whatever you want to call it....no skill is eliminating those overwhelming physical advantages. Maybe he is a ***** cat, i don't know.
I agree with you in the sense that a lot of skill goes out of the window in a street fight. You can be a world class boxer like Mayweather but you could get mauled to pieces by a guy who is just an incredibly violent person on the street. If Hafthor did have bigger nuts than Connor, then i would definetley back Hafthor. But he just doesnt have them.
Björnsson is athletic for a big man (played basketball professionally) and strong (did a lot of strongman competitions) but can he actually fight? Any training?

They were clearly just having a few laughs. ...and even then, Hafþór was gassed after two minutes. So no, I doubt he would do well in actual fighting against dedicated trained professionals. ...although Conor is tiny next to him, so one mistake could be costly. Hafþór isn't slow for a man of his size, when he puts his mind to charging.
