That's exactly the point I was making and at several points in the fight he literally walks McGregor down with no boxing stance. He's just literally walking.
All success Conor had was because Floyd allowed him to have that success, he could finished Conor much earlier if he wanted.
A lot of boxing fans dont like to admit it, but yes, an 0-0 in boxing MMA fighter going 10 rounds with a world class professional boxer who was on p4p lists less than 2 years earlier, and never once touching the canvas, is not a great look really. Whether Floyd carried him or genuinely couldnt take him out quickly, either way it was a bad look. Conor should have been on his ass and out of there before the 5th.
I'm not sure why the outcome surprises everyone so much. Conor was a heavier elite combat sport athlete, in a sort-of-related sport to boxing. Floyd was older, smaller, and retired, but THE expert of experts when it came to winning in his restrictive ruleset. Also perfectly suited to its stamina and durability demands. Seems like it went about how you'd expect with those parameters.
The people who think Floyd should've destroyed McGregor know nothing. If Logan Paul can survive hits from Floyd, I'm pretty sure McGregor, who was the best at MMA at the time and fought in a higher weight class comparative to Floyd, would do so with even more ease.
Well there were reports that Conor had been getting a pasting in the gym from relatively low level boxers beforehand. I expected Floyd's class to easily carry him through but Conor instead put a beating on him for 4 rounds. While on the one hand clearly Floyd had slipped a lot due to age, I think it also shows his susceptability to pressure fighters that DGAF for the incoming fire. If Conor didn't gas out I think he would have stretched Floyd out eventually. As to those people that think Floyd carried him ... ... there truly is a sucker born every minute.
