Ali had more or less run out of opponents in USA and took some easy money in Europe. Brian was actually only kayoed once (against Patterson). Valdes and Ricardson fights were cut eye losses in fights he was leading on points. The Machen fingt was a corner retirement, London was given a beating but had not been down.

Great lightheavyweight champion John Henry Lewis lost his last two fights before given at title shot against Bob Olin, (and lost his next fight also). Bob Olin was 2-2-1 before his title fight against Rosenbloom.

Mosley was also coming off of two losses and a no contest going into the ODLH rematch.

We agree that Brian Lindon did not deserve a title shot, but due to promotor rivalry in England (Salomons/Levene) the fight was made. One of them (I don´t remember who) did Ali - Cooper the other Ali - London. Thad Spencer was not british, so London got the shot. Ali did not care who he fought, if I remember right Thad Spencer was the next in line after the Folley fight, but then all went wrong.

I think Ali was scheduled to defend against Bonavena in Tokyo after Folley, but I'll have to look it up.
