i read nate campbell's open letter to schaeffer with great interest as i am one of those individuals who will tend toward conspiracy theories (for example, i think sweet pea's 154 lb. title attempt was a total sham fight - there was a foregone conclusion before the opening bell)... nate's comment about the chessboard got me to thinking about unraveling the different moves that are being made behind the scenes (granted my motives are selfish, obviously if you know that one fighter will get the decision if it goes the distance, that is a huge edge in terms of gambling) the first thing i would like to do is play devil's advocate with nate's letter... the most obvious issue i take with nate's (conspiracy) theories is the fact that he got a decision over GBP's presumed future cash cow/bull juan diaz... nate won the fight, but it was close (i had it 115-112 on first viewing and 114-113 on second viewing) and if they had given it to diaz, it STILL wouldn't have been as bad a decision as in the casamayor/santa cruz fight... hell, i can probably think of ten decisions off the top of my head that would have been far worse than giving that fight to diaz (and keeping his 3 belts and casamayor's ring belt in-house) the second is the comment about the casamayor-katsidis fight... is nate insinuating katsidis was supposed to win and then "unify" the 135 lb belts with diaz, a fight that (presumably) diaz would win? i'm not sure i get his line of reasoning on that one... i mean the casamayor-diaz fight is happening anyway isn't it? i'd like to hear well thought-out comments and opinions
