Hey guys, new to this forum and this is my first post so hi all :hi: I was hoping you guys could take a look at my video below and give me your thoughts on my technique + foot work and power etc. I am 100% self training with what I can learn on my own through watching and learning about the sweet science. :bbb https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjv6Zs3ibY4
too much arm punching, you don't pivot into your punches at all. Then you put too much weight on your front foot
You pretty much only circle to the left. Going to the right, you come out of stance or you cross your feet. It's obvious your uncomfortable circling right.
Joking of course. Except about the shorts, those should be the first thing you fix. Out of curiosity, why are you training yourself, and what are you training for? The consensus is always that training yourself is totally ineffective if you plan to ever fight at all. For fitness, it's fine, but why would you care about your technique in that case...
haha that's good I was like wow tough community here atsch I'm training myself as I'm doing night shift work, work from 2.30pm and sleep most of the next day. also finances are a shambles atm End goal is to join a gym when life permits, and hopefully get some amateur bouts in. How do you think I'm going so far?, I went from knowing nothing to getting myself to this stage in a couple months, I know its nothing compared to a real gym but I figured I may as well do what I can.
tbh I would entirely stop training the boxing and just work on sprints/lifting/HIIT until you can get in a gym. You'll never be able to fix the mistakes you make, and there are gonna be a lot of them. Boxing is a weird sport and you just can't teach it to yourself. And habits in boxing are almost impossible to break. If you look around the forums the advice is always the same.
Honestly, you look no different than anyone else that watches boxing on TV/Internet and tries to emulate what they see as of right now. I was there at one point myself but only once I had a good coach did I see how little I knew about fighting. When your not used to someone throwing punches at you, you shadowbox or hit the heavy bag quite differently than if your taking into consideration that with every punch thrown, there could be something coming right back at you with the intent of knocking your head off. Not learning this from the get-go leads to making natural bad habits that are hard to reverse. A good trainer will be able to correct these on the spot or develop ways to strengthen your weaknesses.
Thanks for all the input Jag and killsomthing. I hear what your saying, even if it bruises the ego a bit LOL. Ill lay of trying to teach myself how to box and work on getting fit until i can be taught properly by a coach. Ill post back soon hopefully once I join a gym and get some sparring going, stay tuned
It's ridiculous to not even train at all until you can join a gym. What if you never get around to joining a gym? Then you'll never have even hit a bag and will end up with zero skills. If you enjoy it do it, better to be doing something than nothing. In the first instance someone somewhere taught himself to box before there were any gyms!
Is it completely useless to train yourself if there's no other way, I mean he definitely looks better than someone with abosolutely 0 training.
