We as fans cannot let this type of robbery go unaddressed. Librado Andrade is too nice of a guy to do it. We the fans need to do something about this. This man was robbed of a world championship tonight. A referee from Bute's hometown took this man's dreams away from him.
I guess Canada is just as bad as Europe know, with regards to hometown cooking of fights. Its a damn shame.
As someone who has called for severe punishment of referees (anybody watch college football and see that South Carolina QB get trucked by the referee?), I feel that the IBF needs to step up to the plate and address the circumstances surrounding the end of this fight. How can something like this happen? How can a referee openly say in a post-fight interview that a fighter cost himself the fight? How about just saying that I did my job to the best of my ability? It wasn't bad enough that he let Bute hold all night and broke up any close exchange that gave Andrade a chance. He then had to go and give the guy a 20 second count and openly say that Bute was finished.
Here is the information to call or mail I am serious, this needs to be protested, That was a horrible ****ing example of refereeing. The wrong fighter won that fight. 516 Main Street 2nd Floor East Orange, NJ 07018 (973) 414-0300 (973) 414-0307 fax
Good man. I know that a result can never be overturned but an immediate rematch can be enforced and this is what needs to happen. I'm not completely familiar with the IBF's rematch policy. I know the WBC enforces thim as we witnessed this with Toney vs. Peter but I'm not sure about the IBF. Bute will most assuredly look elsewhere but the IBF should force his hand and make him fight Andrade again with a neutral referee. I can understand a hometown guy having a hometown ref on an undercard or a club fight but not on a world title stage in front of a national TV audience. That's bush league and the IBF dropped the ball by allowing this to happen. If guys like Vic Drakulich will go to Japan to referee fights and Wayne Kelly and Joe Cortez will go to Germany surely they can bring in a guy to call this fight the right way and not protect the hometown fighter.
He also said "Well, to be honest he was out. It's a little outrageous". He was being gracious in accepting the official decision but he clearly knew and felt and wasn't hiding the fact that it was BS.
