a thread on the General as well but its over at the Scene an interview with Victor Conte, "Mayweather doesn't do Olympic Style drug tests, Olympic Style drug tests are 24/7 365 days a year" http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=346498
so Floyd Mayweather, a guy with no formal education, uses the wrong thrase in a highly the point is the standard of testing used in boxing at the moment is quite simply pathetic. whatever Mayweathers motives.....he is in the right. Fighters should be under stricter testing surley nobody can disagree agaisnt that.
you should, a very intelligent guy and regardless of his past he is one of the leading experts on this subject.
you're right perhaps they should but is that all fighters? how can the fighters afford to pay for it? The commissions certainly can't afford to implement for ALL boxers it just isn't financially viable. What about guys like Paul McDonagh for example could they afford to pay X amount of thousands for continually drug tests off his purse? Of course not. Could the BBBoC afford it for all fights in Britain? Of course not. As for whatever Mayweather motives are, I think that is plain, it was an excuse. BTW Conte believe that both Pacquiao and Mayweather are at it.
thats absolute bull**** athletes can leave their countries they live in to train in countries where they know they wont be tested, example; kelly holmes left the uk and trained in south africa in preparation for the olympics to avoid drug testing, conte is a cheat and by the sounds of it he is having a pop at mayweather because if olympic style drug testing is introduced in boxing it will make conte's life a lot harder
it should just be at world level. that would stop fighters at the lower level doing as they know once they get to the elite level they would need to take tests.
lame reason? I take it you never watched the documentary into drug testing at the highest level in English football? Some players have went 2 or 3 years WITHOUT being tested.
last I read/heard it cost something like $100,000 for that sort of drug testing, not all world title challengers & champions make that sort of purse, especially in the lower weights. the commissions would need to implement it and pay for it. perhaps the ABC's but they are ultimately going to tax the fighter either way.
I have often heard that to get to the elite level of any sport where there is money invloved drugs must be used and that the particular users justify it by saying that its a level playing field However I would like to think that that is not the case
Not every elite athlete is on drugs however the one who do often justify it by saying everyone is doing it. Rob is absolutely right that drug testing in boxing is pretty much useless but as has been mentioned it is not the only sport that is lacking.
