Conteh by decision. Too sharp, too good defensively, great left hand. Foster was decidedly past his sell-by date anyway.
I do agree but too bad that the politics of the governing bodies got in the way of a potentially great fight.
it has to be said,though,that Conteh's propensity for being knocked down only really started towards the end of his career. Around '74 he appeared to be quite tough in the whiskers dept. John decisions an old Foster by quite a sizeable margin.
I pick Foster, even by this stage. Sure, he was having difficulty with Ahumada, whereas Conteh wasn't really, but I don't see what relevance that actually has on this match up. If you look at the guys who Conteh fought who resembled Foster, you're looking at Bennett and Burnett. These two guys were very similar style to Bob, and they gave Conteh big issues with their jabs and left hooks. I had Burnett beating an old Conteh, and though Bennet was doing very well before he was head-butted. Foster could absolutely build on what those two did, given he was much better than both - even at that point.
