Conteh was diminished by the Saad fights, alcohol, women, cocaine and a busted right hand had taken their toll.
In my opinion a prime Conteh deals with Kovalev without too much trouble.
If Andre Ward’s roughhouse tactics were too much for Kovalev then Conteh, as well as being an excellent all round boxer would be his biggest nightmare, he could be a mean sob.

Me too. Conteh had a mean streak in him, if he sensed a weakness he would go for blood .He also had a very good right hand maybe not quite as hard as Kovalev's, but quicker and shorter. If he handed shots to Kovalev's body and got the reaction Ward did, he would be all over him ,like a shark smelling blood.Kova threw long punches and could not infight Conteh was a good infighter and got his head in your face as much as possible too.Conteh wins this.

In which fight? Handling adversity should not include coming back from low blows. Looking it from a different angle, did Hopkins have trouble with handing adversity from his opting out?

Kovalev came back from a KO loss and beat a pretty good opponent. That is handling adversity, and he did it IMO past his prime.

Kovalev's chin is just a bit better than okay. His biggest issue was that and not always training hard.

Coneth was one of those very good, but not quite great fighters. A tough dude. His best opponent was Saad, and he lost twice. Too many easy touches on his resume. Kovalev, when he retires, might have better names on his resume.

Close to a 50/50 type of fight, I like Kovalev because I think he'd land the harder shots, and take a close decision.

I'll pick Conteh in a distance fight. In a 15 rounder, he'd have the decided advantage.

Kovalev quit in Ward 2. He showed no heart and gave no tit for tat with Ward just crumbled and quit and this is coming from someone who WAS a huge fan.
As far as coming back against Alvarez. Alvarez did absolutely nothing in the rematch and it wasnt because of anything Kovalev did. Kovalev looked like a breeze would have knocked him over hes so far gone now except Alvarez didnt let his hands go period.
Conteh and Saad beat the hell out of Kovalev. His mystique went up in flames.
He gets way to much credit at this point. He couldn't shine Marvin Johnsons shoes.

Easy touches, you mean beating Yaqui Lopez with one hand?

Saad beat a Conteh far removed from his prime, and just barely........Conteh had a great defense. Saad probably landed 25 percent of his punches and didn't catch Conteh until the late rounds. And that was due to Conteh's legs betraying him. I love Saad, but prime Conteh wins an easy UD over Saad.

Please enlighten us on the "active guard"

A version of each, Kova by a battering and decisive decision.

B version of each and Conteh catches up to him.

He was hurt and Ward landed clear low blows to finish him. The ref should have given Kovalev time to recover, but didn't. As such the ending has an * to it.

Quitters do not come back to nearly shut out someone who Ko'd them past their prime. Kovalev career is not over yet. He would out punch and out box Coneth in my opinion. I'd give Coneth a better chance if he hit a bit harder.

Were all entitled to our opinions and how we perceive things.
I'm not here to argue. It's a waste of time to me as I'm here to enjoy myself .
That being said. I still believe prime Conteh is much better than Kovalev. Prime Conteh starts to batter Kovalev after about 9 and stops him late.

Great defense? I think not. Coneth lost three times to lesser fighters and drew in his prime to a 19-8 fighter who I never heard of. The guy was gritty, but great defense???

Conner lost in this prime before the age 29 several times. Kovalev should have beaten Ward in the first fight, and lost in the second slightly past his prime at age 34. I see a five year difference and Coneth if he opted to fight on would have a few more losses on his resume from 30-35.

Saad was a bit chinny, wasn't he? Coneth could not finish him. Saad has some really bad loses before his 34th birthday. Saad's best win is Coneth.
