I'm in the same boat. Spinks was able to get thru relying mostly on his left hand and movement primarily because he had the threat of his atom bomb right hand sitting loaded behind them. If the need to pull the trigger arose it would have been detonated. Early on Qawi tasted it's heat and the danger was never forgotten. I think Qawi would have more success closer the gap and fighting his own fight in this one. I don't think lowly of Conteh, he's a fantastic fighter, but i really rate Qawi.
I wemt for prime for prime, seemed more feasible. Can I say I see exactly where M2S and JT are coming from; it would be a close fight, as I said. But I just trust Conteh's superior work at mid-range/outside to pull him through.
at that time,1979, qawi would have probably stopped john.at their respective peaks conteh would have won
As an aside, i think Qawi has as much chance of getting knocked out in this fight as Conteh does, and he's the easier of the two to discourage.Conteh was a very dangerous two fisted puncher, imo the harder hitting of the two, though i'd say qawi was more durable.I'd agree it wouldn't be wise to for any light heavy to get into protracted trading with Qawi though. I wouldn't entirely be surprised if this ended up a replay of the spinks fight, with qawi eating some big shots in the spirited early exchanges and subsequently not doing quite enough over the remainder.
