Period. I'm shocked. Jaidon definitely answered any questions about his heart. MUCH respect for him. Imagine how different this would have been had he been knocked out during Bika's post-knockdown barrage in R1. Consider me a Codrington fan.
reasons why i think it was: -the excitement created by the combo of Jaidon's very "suspect' chin (coming into the fight) and one-punch power -the Contender finale gimmick and 750K -the first round knockdowns -nonstop action You usually dont see that much power punching from guys this big. I know there are a ton of more significant exciting fights, but for pure excitement i've never seen anything better. Halger/Hearns comes to mind obviously, but this one had the benefit of being longer
I've been watching boxing for 30 years, and this fight is right up there with the best slugfests I've seen over that time, including Hagler-Hearns.
Sure, Jaidon showed heart 750,000 $ was at stake! He was not going to quit, he took some big shots threw out the fight, that I was surprised he survived.
You can't call something like this the fight of the year (especially this year), but it was a great brawl and had an unbelievable opening round. It was great to see it live up to the hype of the show, especially after the 1 sided undercard bouts. Another plus for boxing this year. :happy
Who would have thought before hand that it would give Pavlik-Taylor a run for its money as fight of the year? I hope they give Jaidon a bonus. Especially since Brewer got payed last year to put on a track meet against a smaller fighter.
Remember Gatti-Ward becomes Fight of the year. Even the youtube only Somsak vs Monshipour becomes FOTY. I would say it's best of the year so far together with Vasquez-Marquez2.
It was a good entertaining fight. Jaidon put up a good effort and has redeemed himself from the Green masscare. I wouldn't put it up there with the best fights I've ever seen though.
